My first cruise didn't meet expectations

Sail Date: April 01, 2009

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

Crown Princess...the ship had ALOT of dead end trails: you walk up and down and around and end at a dead end! They charged you for every little thing.. and add a tip to everything....$4.60 for a can of soda!! They should furnish you at least 1 glass of soda or lemonade with every meal. Charge you to go ashore ! Nickle and dime you everywhere. Front desk and steward didn't have any answers to any questions we asked them. No one warned you about taxes/limits for ashore purchases. Shows repeated themselves the following nite. 2 comics, 1 magic show, 3 song and dance shows--that was it for 2 stage areas...Spa was outrageously priced--double what you pay in the states.

Pros: Movies under the stars, Grand Turks and other ports

Cons: All the nickle and diming; the food overall was average at best

Recommends Crown Princess? No.

Food and Dining
Greasy; limited variety--esp./ breakfast (ate oatmeal and frosted flakes the last 3 days). Lunch was also limited selections. Had one edible dessert the whole trip--the pastry chef should be fired and replaced before the next cruise !!
Entertainment
They had variety, yes
Children's Programs
seemed to offer alot
Ship Quality
My wife fell near the pool area because there is always water everywhere--not attended to.
Service and Staff
Cruise director and his staff were very annoying...voice/tone/phoniness.
Cabin / Stateroom
As stated, steward barely spoke English and certainly didn't understand it---although he was very nice otherwise.
Princess Cays (Cruise Line Private Island)
Buffet served was horrible
Don't Miss: Don't miss the free cold water every 50 feet...
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
Many shops to bargain in--don't pay more than 1/3rd the starting listed price
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
Very scummy island, inc. shopping area.
Don't Miss: Don't miss a taxi back to the ship--it's a long and dangerous walk otherwise
Grand Turk Island
water was beautiful...You don't go anywhere--it's a dinky island.
