Costa Mediterranea

Sail Date: February 02, 2008

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

First impression - the ship is bright and really a showpiece. Magnificent decor. They do let you find your own cabin - but it's much faster to board without waiting for someone else to show you the obvious.

Pros: staff, decor, iinerary

Cons: too short

Recommends Costa Mediterranea? Yes!

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
We love the beaches and Magens and Sapphire are must sees. Now we are told there is a Marriott beach worth visiting next cruise so we will give it a try. Skip the shopping, nothing special and use the time to see the magnificent island itself!
Don't Miss: Sapphire Beach

Again, we are not shoppers but we did go into La Romana to look - nice enough but Bayahibe beach is the real gem of the island. Smooth sand slopes without any dropoffs into warm, calm water where even old folk like us can actually swim. We got hungry and tried a local souvinir shack on the beach for some fish. Looked strange - they fry the entire fish with skin, head and tail and no breading - but it tasted absolutely wonderful - totally fresh and sweet and we picked every bit off the bones!

Grand Turk Island
The beach is right in front of the boat - just walk off. But if you don't swin be sure to stay in the marked off crib area because the waist high water quickly drops off to about 6000 feet just past the markers. This is how the ships can dock so close to the beach. But again, the water is warm, not rough, no surf, and beautiful. We rented floats and just paddled around for hours.

Some place to see once but night time stops are not our favorites - we prefer beach time and do not drink or night club. However, it was good for those who do. We have already been several times and done the horse drawn carriages through town by moonlight and seen the forts.
