We were very disappointed with all of the smoking. Smoking was allowed in the state rooms - we have been on over 10 cruises and never experienced so much smoking. There were usually lines in the buffet and the early seating was too late at 7:00 pm.
The cabin was clean and comfortable. The staff handled the multitude of languages well; English was definitely the minority language but it wasn't a barrier to our enjoyment. We were concerned about smoking, but it wasn't an issue. I would definitely consider a cruise with Costa again.
The food was terrible. The service was slow and not at all up to the expectations of American cruise lines. I do NOT recommend that any Americans take Costa Cruises. Poorly run activities, overly crowded decks with all food service, entertainment and pools on one deck. Other European passengers were not friendly and clearly did not want Americans to be on their cruise line.
The ship was beautiful. It was difficult at times to get out point across as it was pretty much an italian speaking vacation. I have cruised many times before and felt this ship lacked the activity schedule of fun. It was just limited. The food was good, but lacked variety. I was looking for the delicious italian desserts, and they just weren't there. Crew and staff were friendly, but be prepared with everything except a blow dryer for in yor cabin. The ports were all wonderful. I liked that we had a stop everyday, however some port days were not long enough.
Boarding was a pleasure compared to the Costa Ancient Treasures trip to Istanbul.
The cabins at the back were great (180 degree view) BUT we were too close to the Londra Lounge which made loud noise till 1-2am each morning.
The ship is beautuiful, with everything you need, The gym was a bit dissapointing compared to the one on the Costa Meditteranea or Atlantica
The food was fantastic and the service excellent - we found the staff all round superb
The tour gourp organisation was good except that with few english speaking guests we were limited
We liked the cruise. We had a very nice room. But there was a serious language barriers. There was a lot of smoking. It was my first cruise and I truly loved it. However, my husband, who has had more cruise experience, said it was nice but that he would definately stick with an american cruise line in the future.
This was an Italian crusie experience in every way...we knew that going into it and were very pleased with the experience. We speak Italian and really enjoyed the food, music, shows, ports, even the piano bar. If you are expecting an American cruise, you might think twice. THere were Americans on board, but it is predominately Italian.
We sailed on the Costa-Concordia the week of 4/18/08. Distination ports were truly amazing the excursions were good for the most part...would not do the Palermo local one.
The ship is too large and tried to service too many passengers with too little crew. Customer service agents were not very helpful and at one point, rude. The food was average at best and did not offer much of variety. The passengers were mostly European and were pushy, rude and did not follow any of the guidelines, like getting in line at the end but would walk directly in front of you and ignore the fact that you were trying to get your lunch too. Children ran around the ship constantly and were frequently on the dance floors in the evening so adult passengers were intimidated from dancing for fear of knocking them over or getting run over by them. Our room 8304 was directly below the 9th floor recreational area, (swimming pool, dining area) and chairs were constantly dragged over the floor keeping you awake at night or awakening you in the morning. The noise overall on the ship was extremely loud. The hottubs could not be used because the water was too cold or there were kids jumping in and out of them. The smoking in the lounges and in the common areas was overwhelming.
We took the cruise for the ports and because it was one of the only ships sailing at that time of the year (prior to May) in that part of Europe. Not too many surprises because most other reviews were like this one but the rudness of the guests, the amount of children and inability to use the general areas like the hottubs were disappointing.
The ship was great. The reviews that I read before I left were a bit disappointing. I found the ship to be clean, the staff friendly and the food more than adequate.Even us Americans could find something that we liked although one should not go to Europe looking for an American experience, you won't find it. I would definitely sail with Costa again. The embarkation as well as the disembarking was the best I've ever experienced on any cruise line. Our family of 8 made memories that are priceless. Thanks Costa for a marvelous week. Looking forward to future sailings.
The ship was beautiful but the plan made it difficult to find the areas. I think more maps of the plan need to be posted. Our cabin with balcony was large and very comfortable as was the bath. I thought the personel did very well considering the crowded conditions and the rudeness of many of the passengers. I think the ship caters to the average European family and some less classy types of tourists. Of course there were lovely people on board too.. There were many children and sometimes they played in the halls late at night. The noise level was high. The food was not great but seem to improve as the week went on.
I really appreciated having a chapel and masses on the ship.
If you're going on a trip to meet new people and interact with everyone on board, then this is not the perfect cruise for you. Out of 3000 passengers, there were 140 English speaking passengers. The Italian passengers were always really nice, would offer glasses of wine and we all did great making hand gestures, but it didn't make for great conversation. We would recommend this cruise for a couple that likes to be alone together.
Interior of ship : colours not restful. menu variety poor. Entertainment consentrated on the Italian and German passengers. Service was excellent. The last two cruises we booked with you was with Celebrity Cruises and they were excellent, I would have no hesitation reccomending them. Costa, I'm not so shure.
For four retired people this ship was too noisy (many children). Also, we did not receive asequate information concerning the excursion choices. Costa presumes that everybody is internet savvy and can uncover the info themselves.
This was our fourth cruise, unfortunately the entire experience was horrendous. The staff is uncooperative, they are not informed, they give you the wrong information to the simplest questions. We had booked two excursions prior to our cruise, we were told we get our tickets in our cabin, we kept waiting, the day of the excursion we still had no tickets. I kept going to the excursion desk and they kept telling me, you will get them soon. I had to ask for a manager, they kept me waiting and I told them i would noty leave until I had my tickets, I finally got them 30 minutes prior to the excursion. My husbands card would not open the cabin door after two days on the cruise, we went to the customer service desk to tell them and get a new card, they gave me another card with my name instead of my husband's, when I point this out they correct it and gave him a card, however when we are leaving the ship in one of the ports my card would not work, they had to call security, because the girl had voided my card. This happened again two days later. We had to turn in our passports and were told to go to the card room to pick them up because we would need them at the next port. We are all waiting at the card room at the time we were told and noone is coming with our passports, we had to go to customer service after waiting over half an hour, they showed up 40 minutes late with the passports, the same thing happened when we had to turn them in, they told me two different rooms and another person said they would not collect them until the next day, it took me over two hours to finally turn in our passports again. When we were getting off the ship they told us to pick up the passports at 9:30 AM they did not have them ready to be picked up until 10:30AM. Nothing worked as they said on the ship, it was the most disorganized disater I have ever experienced. They had schedules for different exercise classes, I would sign up for the class for a date and time, the class would be cancelled or the time changed without any notice. Our cabin was dusty and the bathroom would not be cleaned properly, we dropped a fruit in the bathroom, the next day the floor was never cleaned, it was still sticky, I had to tell them three times before it was cleaned. I will never go on anothe Costa cruise again.
