Review summary

The food was terrible. The service was slow and not at all up to the expectations of American cruise lines. I do NOT recommend that any Americans take Costa Cruises. Poorly run activities, overly crowded decks with all food service, entertainment and pools on one deck. Other European passengers were not friendly and clearly did not want Americans to be on their cruise line.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Food was TERRIBLE. Some meals in the main/formal dining hall were inedible. They were either too salty or too bland. All meats were overcooked. There were no food options besides the same two types of pizza if you didn't want to eat the main/formal dining hall. NEVER recommend Costa's food. Nothing good to say about the food.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Not at all what American passengers are looking for. Out dated and corny activities. No Americans participated in the activites. They were similar to 6th grade summer camp games.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Our room steward and most of the staff were friendly. Room service wouldn't always answer the phone.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Every activity, both pools, and all buffets were on one deck which made it really crowded. It was not up to par with that of American Cruies lines. Unsanitary that people in bathing suits/speedos were walking through the buffet lines.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
We unexpectedly had a handicapped room which was quite spacious.

Ports of call

Marseille (Provence), France

3 out of 5
MUST provide better maps/information about the port distance to the city center. The ship port and the city center are actually nearly a 25 minute bus ride which was not clearly labeled on the port information therefore we wasted 1.5 hours getting lost.

Palermo, Sicily

3 out of 5
Ported on an Italian Holiday when most shops were not open. Would have been better to time it differently, or not have 11 hours in this port.

Savona (Genoa), Italy

3 out of 5
Ported on a Sunday which meant everything was closed. Should rearrange that port to maximize what Savona has to offer.

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5

Pros: -

Cons: poor service, horrible food, activities not suited to Americans.

Recommends Costa Concordia (RETIRED) 548? No.
