A perfect way to show someone your love

Sail Date: January 01, 2007

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

The decision to sail on Concordia was influenced by an article my wife read in one of her spa industry trade journals. What better way to pamper someone who pampers others then to take her on the world's largest ocean-going spa? This was a spectacular venue for her 50th birthday and the ship is a magnificent work of modern art.

Pros: The crew was remarkable. Warm, friendly and competant.

Cons: Slow internet service, busy spa on sea-days.

Recommends Costa Concordia (RETIRED)? Yes!

Cabin / Stateroom
Spacious and well-appointed. The furnishings were extremely comfortable and our bed provided a marvelous night's sleep. While there was only one English language TV channel, we had a wide range of PPV movies available.
Entertainment
I feel underqualified to critique all the entertainment and activities available to us. Mostly because there was more to do than time to do it. It is a stretch to find fault with anything we did but since there were so many different nationalities aboard, announcements were quite cumbersome. We heard everything in Italian, French, German, Spanish and English which as you may imagine, took some time.
Service and Staff
The best feature of this ship was the crew. And if you have seen this ship, you know that means a lot. Every interaction we had was more than satisfactory. We were especially happy with our cabin steward. We had everything we wanted, when we wanted, and rarely if ever saw him. He had that magical quality that blends omnipresence with invisibility.
Ship Quality
The newest and largest ship in Costa's fleet, Concordia met and then exceeded our expectations in almost all areas. Spacious is an understatement. In fact all my small adjectives fail to capture the grandeur. Think ginormous! Both in style and stature.
Food and Dining
Accomodations on the Samsara level gave us access to the healthy choices in what seemed like our own private dining room. It was certainly more intimate than the larger two-seating resteraunts. The food was quite imaginative and very high quality, yet it was totally eclipsed by the service. The staff here went over-the-top in pampering us. I'm not sure how many stars this experience rates but it was a white-glove extravaganza. And for those meals we ate more quickly, or with new-found friends in other dining rooms, whether at the ample buffet or with sit-down service, excellent variety and very high quality left us completely satisfied.
