My wife and I just came back from a one week Southern Carribean cruise aboard The Summit (St. Croix, St. Kitts, Dominica, Grenada, St. Thomas, San Juan).

For a ship that just came out of drydock and was supposed to be refurbished a.k.a. "Soltiscized" we saw nothing remarkable or spectacular about this ship.

Talked to several frequent cruisers who have been on this same ship more than once and they also said thgat nothing looked different to them.

The main atrium / lobby was drab and had no color to it as Royal Carribean ships do. Most of the lounges / bars and the main dining room were also dark and dreary.

Our cabin # 7xxx was not much bigger than the walk-in closet in our home. We kept bumping into each other moving around the bed, couch, and desk and to and fromn the small balcony.

I would have expected a shower door instead of a curtain. The water at times was not hot at all. The toilets didn't flush at times.

The food was ok but not remarkable other than the French Onion soup in the main dining room at dinner. The buffet wasn't that great. I can get a better selection and variety at my local Golden Corral.

There was a soft serve ice cream station in the buffet restaurant that never worked the entire cruise.

The printer that prints your bills for drinks in the main theatre never printed correctly so you couldn't see how much you were being charhged for. We broough this to our waitresses attention the very first night. Several days later the same girl brought us our bill and it was exactly the same. Nothing had been done to correct it.

The walking course on deck # 11 was too small and crowded because of it.

The Shore Excursions

St. Croix

We docked on a Sunday. Took the Panoramic Tour. It was an insult to the word panoramic. Most of the roadsides between the small tour bus and what should have been a scenic view of the island and Carribean was obscurred by 10 foot high trees, bushes, and weeds. Hardly saw anything "panoramic". Our tour bus driver had the personality of a wet rag. Never smiled. Mumbled so you could hardly hear what he was saying. On our drive through Frederiuckstadt and Christenstadt we saw piles of trash and garbage. You would thinkk that an island nation depending on tourism would take more pride in its appearance. When we reached the other side of the island in Christenstadt to shop and eat lunch. EVERYTHING was closed becasue it was Sunday. You would thinkk that an island nation depending on tourism would have evrything open every other Sunday when the Summit docks. All in all St. Croix was a total dissapointment and we will never go there again.

St. Kitts, Dominica, and Grenada were ok.

St. Thomas

We were supposed to take a snorkeling and beach tour to Trunk Bay on St. John's. We found out when we woke up that morning that our tour was cancelled because of rough surf. We should have still been able to take the boat ride over to St. John's and sit on the beach. Instead we spent another "Day at Sea" docked in St. Thomas.

San Juan

We were supposed to take a tour of Old and New San Juan. But because the TSA and Border Patrol, in their infinite wisdom, decided to make all 2,000+ passengers go through only one line depite the fact that there were 4 or 5 "booths" manned with agents that could have been screening passengers. It tookm so long to get off the ship we had our tour basically cut in half.

San Juan Airport

The ship's personnel dropped ALL of the passenger luggage in front of Terminal D which was great if you were flying out of Terminal D. We were not. We were flying out of Terminal B. We had to drag 4 heavy suitcases over half a mile back to our terminal. There were none of those small SmartCart luggage carts that you pay for to carry your luggage like EVERY OTHER MAJOR AIRPORT IN THE COUNTRY HAS.

We will NEVER cruise Celebrity again. Royal Carribean now.
