A good cruise for the price

Sail Date: April 01, 2010

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

The ship was acceptable, but appeared somewhat old and rundown. The pool and sun deck areas had lots of chairs, but seemed overly crowded. Service was friendly, but average. Overall, a nice cruise for the discounted price we got, but not up to par with any of the past cruises I've been on with other cruise lines, and definitely did not meet the expectations of Celebrity's advertised quality.

Pros: Spacious cabins, good itinerary

Cons: Ship appearance was shabby

Recommends Celebrity Summit? No.

Ship Quality
Good size and layout, typical for this class of ship. Public areas are clean, but are showing age. Railings appear worn and need refinishing. Deck chairs are old.
Service and Staff
Staff was friendly and service was always acceptable, but attention to details ("finishing touches") markedly declined over the course of the week, particularly in the main dining room.
Good variety of musical acts. Shows and activities were on the lower side of typical for this class of ship, and nothing special. Cruise director lacked energy and was seldom heard from or seen. Activities such as deck parties were not widely announced verbally or in the daily Celebrity Today. Shore guides focused only on shopping, and provided minimal, if any, information on sights of interest in the immediate port area.
Food and Dining
Main dining room menu had good variety and interesting and tasty selections each night. There was always some type of dining venue open from early until late. Buffet selection did not vary much from day to day, but was generally good.
Cabin / Stateroom
Staterooms were very spacious and had more than ample storage. Beds were comfortable. Good condition except bathroom door did not fully close. One irritating policy - the room attendant refolded wet towels and put them back in the rack each evening rather than replacing them or leaving them hanging to dry, so towels were still damp in the morning.
