Terrific Itinerary

Sail Date: April 01, 2012

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

We sailed on Celebrity Solstice for a 12-night Mediterranean cruise. It was the 5th cruise for both of us, and overall it was very enjoyable. Ship was beautiful and comfortable, and the itinerary was wonderful. We paid extra for an "unobstructed balcony" room, which technically we got. However, due to the unusual design of the ship, our balcony view looked directly down at the tops of the lifeboats, rather than having a clear view of the water as we had with previous cruises. Celebrity is supposed to be "a cut above" RCL and Princess, but I did not get that from the activities and entertainment we had on Solstice. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and the staff captain gave 2 of the best presentations I have seen anywhere. There was a lack of "free" coffee access (only at the buffet) which was very annoying, especially when they put away the paper cups and lids at noon every day. There also seemed to be a lack of other free amenities, although there were plenty of crew trying to upsell something all day (and evening) long. The food was great, and we got seated within minutes every night without having any reservations - we enjoy the Anytime Dining for the flexibility, and it is easy to get a table "anytime".

Pros: Ports, food, cabin, staff

Cons: Entertainment, upcharging, lack of age-appropriate activities

Recommends Celebrity Solstice? Yes!

There was not much to do on board if not able to dance. There was plenty of loud music and video games, but not much for seniors, who made up the bulk of the passengers. The entertainment was also sub-par for the most part - not enough, and not enough quality.
