Well Designed Ship/Exceptional Staff

Sail Date: November 30, 2011

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Traveled As: Large Group

Room Type: Suite

This is a beautifully laid out ship. The central lobby has a dance floor on the third floor where live music is played. At the edge of this area is an open cylinder that goes to the top of the ship, fifteen floors up. Glass elevators surround the cylinder making possible views of the passing floors and their different lounges, libraries, hideaways, as well as views of the dance floor and musicians. The music can be heard and enjoy on all the floors because of this marvelous design.

Pros: Friendliness of the staff, beauty of the ship

Cons: Restaurants had chairs that were so heavy, staff members had to help us get seated

Ship Quality
The ship is laid out logically - dining at one end, theater at the other, shops and gambling in between. Pools near the spas. Lots of lovely art to engage the eye. Spotless everywhere. In seeming compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Food and Dining
Nice variety of restaurants. The Grand Cuvee was elegant. We had an early seating and dinner lasted nearly an hour and a half. The food was good to excellent. Presentation outstanding. The Murano ( ($40 extra) was a very romantic French restaurant. The Ocean View Cafe was a cafeteria. Good food everywhere - indoors and out. New item - Lawn Club - cook your own steak - fun, fun, fun. Restaurant chairs much too heavy though
Cabin / Stateroom
We booked the Royal Suite because my husband and I were sailing with my 92 year old mom. It was spacious and well laid out. I loved the walk in closet and the huge two sink, shower and jacuzzi main bathroom. It could have used a divider between the living room sleeper sofa and the dining room/kitchen though. The suite came with lots of perks - coupons, free dining in 2 specialty restaurants, Captains Club lounge with open bar, and a wonderful butler.
Service and Staff
On a scale of one to a hundred, each and every staff member on this ship gets a two hundred. They were wonderfully friendly and helpful.
Lots of daily activities but we didnt do most of them. Did a little dancing, saw some wonderful solo acts - comedians and singers with good heartfelt messages. Went to the pool once, sauna once. The ensemble acts were awful. The theater is small for a ship this large. It was nice to see that they reserved extra wide chairs for the exceptionally obese travelers, of which there were quite a few.
