We took this cruise in June 2007. This was our first time on a Celebrity Ship.The ship took us everywhere we wanted to go except at the Hubbard Glacier. A Royal Caribbean Ship ahead of us went all the way into the inlet & very close to the glacier, but our ship did not! Many passengers were angry to have missed experiencing this portion of the cruise up close. The website says the ship is "refurbished" but in truth it looks pretty tired and worn in many places. The information in the cabin even says that the ship is due to be re-outfitted in 2009. They should step it up if possible! One example were the ripped and torn window shades at our table in the dinning room. There were places in carpeting that had obviously been replaced and stains that needed to be cleaned. The dust ruffle on the bed was torn. Small details but noticeable and disappointing! I missed the WOW factor.
Food and Dining

The food was ok - but NOT great as experienced on other lines. Potatoes were often not well cooked, desserts were bland & tasteless. 7 of us were crowded around a 6 top table making the dinner experience uncomfortable for everyone. Food from the buffet line was often cold & portions were doled out very grudgingly as if trying to save money. Carrying trays & trying to find a table was like being in a bad fire drill. We chose NOT to join in on one formal night. They closed the buffet and our only options were to eat in our cabin, eat pizza, or eat from their "casual dining" which was a small area they opened up in the buffet area! It was ok - but these servers did not speak English very well, forgot to bring entire courses & this experience was (again) disappointing. On top of that - we were told we were going to be charged a "service fee" of $2 per person. We were in essence being penalized for not wanting to get dressed up & go to the main dining. Pizza was always good though!

The lectures and the speakers were great - we really enjoyed them! The string quartet was absolutely wonderful. We always enjoy the art auctions, Karaoke was fun but the comedian was only ok. It seemed however, that there was an effort to keep the ship's costs down by (over) using lots of "in-house talent" and not bringing in much outside entertainment.
Service and Staff

The line servers in the buffet area were not at all helpful and even surly. Shore excursion personnel were arrogant. Guest Services staff was generally pleasant and willing to help however they could. Retail shop personnel were always fun to speak with. We had the impression that many crew members must have been close to the end of their contracts and were ready to get off the boat!

Size, layout and general condition were ok. We were impressed with the elevators and how quickly they operated with very little wait time. Everything was clean - but this ship needs a real face lift!
Cabin / Stateroom

Our cabin was comfortable and kept neat and tidy with all items replenished often. Oswelt and his staff were amazing. We were however quite disappointed with the obstructed view. When booking we were "encouraged" to pay additional and upgrade our stateroom to a higher deck because we were informed that our original choice had an "obstructed view". So it was disappointing to see a huge flood light hanging in front of our cabin window! We booked over 4 months in advance - seems like someone could have mentioned this "obstruction" (that ended up costing us additional money) and suggested a better alternative. It appears getting the upgraded sale was all that mattered.
Pros: Most of the crew was pleasant. Cabins & housekeeping staff were wonderful
Cons: Communications from staff & crew to passengers was terrible. Details were overlooked. Times were changed & not communicated. Frustrating for both everyone! We were among several who missed a shore excursion due to mis-management & poor communication. We received a refund but no real apology!
