We cruised the Western Caribbean in late November 2002. The weather was awful with only 1 sunny day and we couldn't dock in Grand Cayman because of heavy seas. Embarkation was chaotic, we had to fill out all the documents that we had previously completed on the web again at the pier. We had booked a Sky Suite and were upgraded to a Royal Suite which was beautiful, but no one appeared to know and our luggage did not arrive in the cabin util 10pm. The food in the dining room was very good, the waiter was excellent. The lunch buffets were disappointing and lunch in the dining room was frankly poor. The entertainment was excellent ..but...we felt that there was something missing... there really seemed to be a push for the on board dollar which became obtrusive and I think spoilt the atmosphere for us.Mercury is a big ship and one is conscious of many other passengers aboard - particularly in bad weather. All in all, after the much vaunted Celebrity hype... Mercury was a disappointment.
