Best cruise ever!

Sail Date: December 01, 2006

Room Type: Balcony

PERFECT! The word I use to describe our last trip. Our best cruise ever and are looking to travel on Mercury again, especially after her retrofit. We booked concierge class; our cabin was last on Sky deck and balcony allowed us nearly 150 view of ocean. This was particularly great through the Panama Canal and in ports, especially Curacao. A priest was aboard and daily mass was offered, which we really appreciated. Also aboard was a rabbi, with Haunauka services for those who celebrated it. Special touches, which reflect Celebrity and the Mercury's company personality.

Pros: Everything!

Cons: Really nothing

Recommends Celebrity Mercury (RETIRED) 56? Yes!

Ship Quality
Mercury is the best designed ship we've been on. It is very easy to get from one place to another, and with the exception of deck 5 which is bisected by the galley, one can traverse from bow to stern directly on all decks. We heard repeated positive comments about this from many passengers, most all of whom were well experienced cruisers.
Food and Dining
Not only was the food excellent and well varied, the portions and service were beautiful. Our sentiments were also expressed by many other passengers.
We had meals at all the venues and were pleased with them all. One night the Assistant Maitre'd arranged to have a coconut pie baked for my wife as it was her favorite and she had missed it on an earlier night (it was not again on the menu, but she had one)
Children's Programs
Must be good because children were never underfoot
Cabin / Stateroom
Sure liked the stateroom; the bed was great (both of us have back problems and were as comfortable as we are in our own Select Comfort mattress. Towels were plush and thick, the bathrobes luxurious and the overall quality of steward and assistant was just super.
Service and Staff
We lunched in the dining room (open seating) early into the cruise; there was a German couple at our table, and immediately upon the waiter's discovering where they were from, another waiter (fluent in German) was sent to our table instead; he brought menus printed in German and conversed with them in their language throughtout. MOST IMPRESSIVE! Also, shortly after sailing, the Captain announced that some passengers had brought the "Norwalk" virus aboard and we would be undergoing intensive cleaning procedures. Several reviews complained about these efforts; we were most impressed, both with the intensity and thoroughness, resulting in no new outbreaks in less than week's time. Those complainers certainly wouldn't have wanted to become ill, I'm sure, and even though I did lean on a freshly bleached area and ruin a new shirt, I would not even consider requesting reimbursement, because we had been well warned to be careful in this regard.
The enrichment programs are OUTSTANDING, as are the lectures and computer classes given by the wonderful personnal at the computer center. I finally learned to understand and fully operate my digital camera, and the Adobe PhotoElements workshops were fantastic.
