Celebrity Edge

7 Night Western Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)

Sail date: March 01, 2020

Ship: Celebrity Edge

Cabin number: 6231

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Review summary

We mainly took this cruise to see the new ship. The Celebrity Edge is absolutely beautiful. Very nice experience. However, if you have children or many younger travelers would recommend the larger ships of Royal Caribbean. They have more activities for youngsters.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation is as easy as any cruise we've been on (over 20) in Celebrity's brand new pavilion in Port Everglades

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Main dining room and buffets were very nice and food was great. We did not do any specialty restaurants this time but other passengers said those experiences were very good as well.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
This ship does not have as many outdoor activities as some of the others (Royal Caribbean, Carnival) but pool was nice. This ship appears to be more for older adults and not so much for childrens activities.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Enertainment was pretty good but I believe the shows...and broadway shows...are much better on Royal Caribbean.

Children's Programs

We are in our 70's and had no children or grandchildren with us this time

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff were excellent! The captain of the Celebrity Edge is a woman, Captain Kate, and she was everywhere. She was the most exposed Captain of any of our cruises which was fantastic. She made herself very accessable and aproachable by anyone who wanted to visit with her. She made everyone feel very comfortable.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Celebrity Edge is a beautiful ship (almost brand new) and easy to find you way around. Would definately recommend!

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our cabin (6231) was somewhat small but after talking with the head of houskeeping we were able to upgrade to a much nicer one (7226) with the "infinite" balcony. Much nicer and much larger. Would recommend the "infinite" balcony room to anyone wanting to sail on the Edge.

Ship tip

One of the more "hiden" places was the room on the back of the ship called "Eden". Very nice but we didn't go there until the last 2 days because we just didn't go that far back.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

3 out of 5
We did not do anythng in Ft. lauderdale except get on/off the ship.

Key West, Florida

5 out of 5
We had not been to Key West for about 15 years. It is much nicer now with better ports and shopping. Beautiful city.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

3 out of 5
Unfortunately, we did not get to stop at Costa Maya due to high winds and waves. 4 ships were to dock that day but all 4 were told to pass it by due to weather.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
Cozumel has a much nicer port and shopping area then they used to have. Very easy to get around. We have taken many tours of the island over the years so only did some shopping this time. Felt very safe.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
We love Grand Cayman. Just did some shopping this time but have taken a number of tours over the years. Best one has always been "Stingray City". Our grandchildren just loved it a few years back. Would recommend!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Super easy disembarkation in Celebrity's new pavilion. We carried our own luggage off due to an early flight home. Was easy and with airport close to port were at the airport in plenty of time.
