We just returned from the Eastern Caribbean cruise on Century. All of our prior cruises (5) have been on Carnival and we loved them. The first two days aboard the Century we found ourselves comparing her with Carnival's Fantasy, Ecstasy, etc. The Century staff was excellent...but rather 'stiff.' Carnival seemed to have as much formality, but yet it was more relaxing. We missed the 24-hour-pizza bar and all day ice cream that Carnival has, although Century had excellent ice cream during their lunch buffet. The port of calls in Puerto Rico and Bahamas were almost non-existent. About 3 hours (or less) in both ports. St. Thomas and St. Maarten were very good. We are elderly seniors (71 and 64)...and really enjoyed the beautiful Century, but we still like the freedom of Carnival. Carnival always has salads out as well as dessert bars...while Century is rather strict on their food hours. The stabilizers on Carnival seem much better than on Century. In spite of all the above 'nit-pickin,' the Century is a stately and classy ship. Cleanliness and service were excellent. I will be happy to answer any questions.Chuck CLYARDBIRD@AOL.COM
