I'm a gold member with Carnival but they have made so many cut backs and put in so many little tricks to con you out of your money over the past couple of years that they are no longer a good value.  Basically you are stuck on a ship for 5 to 7 days with only lemonade or bitter tea to drink while you are bombarded with sales pitches and scams.  If you purchase nothing, then you are still going to pay 18% percent for mandatory gratuities and forget anything like a clean ship or any kind of trivial freebie (i.e. mints, folded towels, etc...).  The smoking area is in the kids section (not the adult area), all they play is extremely loud booming rap music (no Caribbean sounds here), and have made so many cut backs to the staff that you stand in line for everything. The service has gone way down hill but the arrogance of the staff has gone way up.  Remember, the price of the cruise, plus 18%.  Other cruise lines (i.e. RC) may not appear to be a good price but in the ends you'll save more $$$ and get more.  VIFP 0096419308.

Ship Tip

Put her in an overhaul, fire the Captain, get a new Captain with some idea of the customers focus and the Caribbean, start conducting some independent/real/professional QA by seasoned cruisers (not cheap surveys of customers), & re-evaluate the new Carnival business plan before market shares crash.

Port Canaveral is easier but Miami is cheaper.
