Carnival Victory South Caribbean Cruise

Sail Date: December 18, 2011

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/young children

Room Type: Oceanview

We liked the cruise very much, especially the South Caribbean itinerary and being able to visit a great new island for 6 continuous days. We debarked the ship everyday to see the islands, all of which are truly amazing. Hands down this is the best way to quickly see the region as getting to the individual islands, room and board on them individually is quite expensive - whereas here everything is taken care of ... you just visit the island and be back to unlimited dining options, entertainment options, and a fun evening awaits you. The entertainment options were good considering we are first time cruisers.

To summarize - we have about 1500 photographs from this trip.

The food was good too, especially the dinners - lunch was good too - didn't fancy breakfast much. All of the staff was super courteous and helpful. We are vegetarian in diet (no poultry, meat or seafood) and yet we found ample variety and options.

Also noteworthy is that since the cruise was from San Juan, Puerto Rico the cruise itinerary took us to the South Caribbean where the waters were so pure and the weather was amazing in the middle of Winter (December) ... whereas a cruise from any port of Florida during the peak holiday season does not go as far south.

So the verdict ... Bottomline - "no complaints, just accolades".

Pros: The Cruise itinerary

Cons: The on-board photography offered by Carnival

Recommends Carnival Victory? Yes!

Service and Staff
All of the staff was extremely courteous and helpful. They did go out of their way to make this a great great experience.
Kid's had a blast ... for the adults - the entertainment was a little bit a hit or a miss. But it also had a casino! Also we enjoyed just sitting in the open lounge at nights and letting the cool bruise carouse our body ... truly relaxing.
Children's Programs
Didn't use it much as we took the kids to port everyday. But did notice trivia, scavenger hunt and other things activities being enjoyed by kids about 13 and older.
Ship Quality
The ship Carnival Victory is definitely old and also a little smaller compared to the newer ship - advantages - it can access the smaller islands who ports are not as deep and hence cannot accommodate larger cruise ships - cons - could experience a some rocking during high windy seas. We did ask some cruisers on a different cruise line and they did mention that their ship had some more activities than the Carnival Victory - however that didn't weigh in as we were on port everyday and we never got enough time to explore the ship and all the entertainment and relaxation options.
Food and Dining
Dinner was Excellent, Lunch was great, Breakfast didn't fancy it much. We are vegetarian and don't eat any poultry, meat or seafood products - dairy is ok - and we still got plenty of variety on the cruise.
Cabin / Stateroom
We had an outside view room and it had ample space for our family of 4 (2 young kids). Mr friend having a family of 5 (3 young kids) was also comfortable. The stateroom maintenance staff was amazing.
