wonderful ship, wonderful time

Sail Date: October 30, 2011

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Oceanview

Victory didn't disappoint us at all. The food in the dining room was great, our waiter was very personable and professional. We had adjoining staterooms with our sons and it was great...large ocean view rooms, super comfortable beds. Carnival always makes you feel like you are the most important guest there. The staff is always smiling and greets you by name. I've cruised on other lines, but always come back to Carnival.

Pros: food in dining room was really great, staterooms large (for ships) and beds very comfortable

Cons: scrambled eggs on buffet - awful. most of the entertainment was really tacky

Recommends Carnival Victory? Yes!

I can't say that I liked the entertainment offered on this cruise. The juggler only did a few actual juggles and the rest of his act was in Spanish (nope, don't speak it) and a little off color from what I gathered and it was a family show. The comedians were so bad we walked out and the big show was called Vroom and it was pretty lame.
Cabin / Stateroom
Our room was spotless, our room steward, Jury was terrific, Love having the bathrobes in the rooms, too. We had an ocean view room on deck 2 and it was great, short distance to the elevator and pretty quiet for the most part. There were a few rowdy guests in the halls, but for the most part it was fine.
Ship Quality
Food and Dining
Again, the main dining room was great. most of the buffet food was good, but stay away from the scrambled eggs. The buffet line isn't set up to be as efficient as it could be...there's usually a fair amount of congestion and it's hard to get your beverage through the crowds of people in line.
Service and Staff
Carnival has the best staff in the industry. They know their jobs, are pleasant and friendly and make you feel welcome.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
We went to the nearest beach to the ship. For $40.00 we got 4 beach chairs, 2 umbrellas, and 2 buckets of beer. The only issue here is the fact that the beach isn't very clean - lots of garbage on the beach..some broken glass (the water itself was fine, a little cloudy maybe but clean). I would recommend wearing beach shoes at this stop. We took the water taxi back to the boat. Don't let them tell you the beach is only a 10 minute walk...quite a bit longer and I'm a fast walker.
Basseterre, St. Kitts
We went into town and looked around, had lunch at Ballyhoo restaurant which has a second floor deck overlooking the town. My sons went further on and got some great pictures of old churches.
Don't Miss: chicken wings at Ballyhoo delicious
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
Went to the beach and it was HEAVEN!!!! Took a taxi into Charlotte Amalie and did the little craft fair they had set up and then got a cab to the beach and spent the rest of the day there.
Bridgetown, Barbados
Went to the Mount Gay Rum Distillery and it was really fun. Got a cab driver who took us to the beach, came back and got us, took us to the distillery and then picked us up and brought us back to the ship. He was great.
Castries, St. Lucia
We didn't like this port at all. Not much to see in Castries, went to a local market and were just kind of creeped out by the whole thing. Would spend the day on the ship rather than visit this port.
