The Carnival Victory overall is a nice manageable ship. This was our 8th cruise and I have to say that Carnival has now gone to the top of our list. Our first cruise that we took in 1989 was a Carnival Cruise. Although it was inexpensive, the food and service was not that good. Taking the Carnival Victory Cruise last week ( February 2011) WOW what a difference. Carnival has stepped it up a couple of notches. Great Food and Service !!!! We had a balcony room which was always clean and tidy. The service staff was always their to accomidate. Our only complaint is that the front desk staff is not very helpful when making suggestions or recommendations on the ports of call. ( They were trying to push their own shore excursions) My suggestion is that you reserach each of the ports of calls to make sure you know what you want to do before you reach each of the islands. We did not book any shore excurisons through the ship. They were all very expensive and we knew we could do better on our own. Here is what I would suggest: San Juan ( See old San Juan and shop the old historic district. Great shops and great places to eat and drink. If you want to go to the beach there is Isla Verde beach which is a 15 minute cab ride away from the curise port. Second stop, Saint Thomas shopping and the beach is recommended. You have to see Megans Bay which is spectacular. We spent a couple of hours at Secret Harbor. The snorkeling was amazing. You snorkel reef ledges and shelfs which are loaded with fish. We saw fish, turtles, sting ray, and squid, amazing. Just exit the ship and take an island tour with a stop at secret harbor. You won't be dissapointed. Third stop Barbados- we did'nt care much for the island.. we found it a bit dirty and a little seedy. Again shopping and beach are the best bets. Third stop St Lucia- A beautiful island. Beach and Rainforest are the best things there. St. Kitts. This is the island were mongoose and Green Monkeys are. You can go to the beach and see the mongoose and Green Monkeys come right to the beach area. We went to Shipwreck beach which is a smaller beach, but, the water and the snorkeling are very good.
Great Cruise Experience !!!
