6 Night Bahamas (Norfolk Roundtrip) Sail Date: October 13, 2008 Ship: Carnival Victory Cabin Type: Balcony Traveled As: Couple Reviewed: 9 years ago
The ship was relatively well maintained, the crew was friendly and helpful, and the bartender in the Ionian Lounge was superb! The jazz trio in that lounge was excellent as well. We capped-off each evening there, and it ended every day on a very positive note.
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The food ranged from mediocre to good, with a couple of excellent meals thrown in. The prime rib was very good, and the Chateaubriand was excellent.

We aren't "party animals," but there was obviously a lot of opportunity to have fun. We really enjoyed the Ionian Lounge for a nightcap and some great jazz.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
A few of the waiters (not ours, except for the open-seating night) had an attitude, and probably would have been better-suited to Denny's of IHOP. But the majority of the staff (especially our steward and regular waiter) were attentive and caring.

Signage was poor, and layout a bit confusing. However, it was clean, well-maintained ship.
Cabin / Stateroom

Our steward made us comfortable, and always was available. We had a balcony stateroom, and I highly recommend the balcony - it makes the cruise, and the extra bucks are well-spent.
We did the shallow-water dolphin encounter at Atlantis, and loved it. The trainers and staff knew their stuff, had no problem communicating that knowledge, and made the encounter worthwhile. The dolphins appeared to well-cared-for and content, and were a joy to experience.
Our second day in Nassau was spent shopping ad then relaxing on the boat. Some decent buys if you're careful, and some rip-offs if you're not.
Don't Miss: We highly recommend the Atlantis Shallow Water Dolphin Encounter.
We spent the short day at the Wyndham Resort beach (shore excursion), where you can snorkel, kayak or do other water sports as part of the package. It was just OK, and we could have enjoyed the day more just staying on-board. Freeport could be missed altogether, and I doubt anyone would complain...
Pros: Our cabin steward and dining room waiter were attentive and friendly
Cons: The "nickle and dime" mentality of Carnival (e.g., the $150 I had to spend to access the wireless Internet, and the cost of drinks) was a bit much, and made us feel that we were being fleeced...
