7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Sail Date: December 24, 2006 Ship: Carnival Victory Cabin Type: Balcony Traveled As: Large Group Reviewed: 11 years ago
We cruised on the Carnival Victory a few years ago and the ship was much cleaner and the staff seemed more eager to please. The Mediterrain Buffet seating area didn't feel very clean to me. Our silverware was dirty most of the time. Our stateroom was extremely crowded for the four of us. We are not a large family and we always seemed to be in each others way. We cruised with another cruiseline two years ago and they outrated Carnival by far. This will be our last cruise with Carnival.
Food and Dining

The quality of the food offered was good, however there was a wider variety of choices on other cruises that we have taken. The dining times were very convenient, there was always something available and they also have 24 hours room service at no extra charge.

The shows that we attended were average. The comedian was hilarious!

For the 11 year olds we didn't feel there was a lot to do. They were in the age group of 6-11. That is a large age difference. I suggest they change that and add some more age appropriate activities for the 10-12 year olds. The teens 14-17 should have more activities other then hanging out and a dance. Maybe some competitive games, talent shows, etc.
Service and Staff

Most of the staff were friendly and willing to help. I felt like the pursurs desk staff could have been a little friendlier at times. The staff in the buffet area didn't seem very eager to keep the table cleared and ask if you needed drinks. The dining room staff at table 328 on the victory during the week of 12/24/06 was excellent. They made the trip for us! We normally don't go to all of the dinners at the dining room but because of Kristina and Olga we went every night. They were wonderful and deserve recognition.

The ship is large and the public areas for the most part are clean. The decor could be better, it isn't my style. The overall cleanliness was average other then the buffet area and the silverware. Our stateroom was kept clean and the dining room was very clean.
Cabin / Stateroom

The stateroom was kept very clean. The reason for the poor rating is the size and overall comfort. The other problem with our room was the fact that our bedding smelled like dirty socks. When we got new bedding it smelled the same. We spoke to other guests on the ship and they had the same issues with their bedding.
St. John Trunk Bay Excursion. I wouldn't recommend this excursion. It was more traveling time then actual time at the beach. Once there, you need to pay a $25 deposit plus $7 for a beach chair rental and you are only there for about 2 hours. When we were leaving the place to get your deposit refunded was closed. Good thing we didn't rent chairs. Suggestion, just use your towel to sit on.
Don't Miss: Don't know
Divi Day Beach was beautiful. We were picked up an hour late for this excursion but once we arrived it was very nice. They had a tiki bar, music, beach chairs, a buffet lunch and two drinks were included. The beach and water was beautiful!
Don't Miss: Divi Day Beach
We didn't have much time in San Juan. Arrived at 6 pm and had to be back on the ship at 11:30 pm. The shops weren't open very late so we went to Senor Frogs and had a great time. We took our 11 and 15 year olds with us along with our parents and brother and sister in-law. It was about 8:30. We all had some food and participated in the activities. It was a blast!
Don't Miss: Senor Frogs
Pros: The dining staff was excellent! Kristina and Olga were friendly and fun and very accomodating.
Cons: The port of calls. We didn't have much time for the excursions. At St. Maarten we were picked up 1 hour late which left us about 2 1/2 hours at the beach. St Thomas we took a ferry to St. John which took 45 min. by the way this wan't noted in the excursion description. This left 2 hrs for beach.
