Review summary

Never been to New Orleans? Want to go on a five day cruise? Then this is the cruise for you. The value for your dollar on this cruise is well worth it. Carnival offers so much to do, you are never without an activity but they make it easy to just sit and relax if that is all you want to do as well.

Embarkation

Could not have been easier. They made the process so easy and quick. Just do not forget your cruise documents or your identification paperwork (i.e. Passport).

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All the food was excellent! The 24hr Pizza place had great thin crust pizza. Best I've had on cruise ships. Not to be missed is the Chocolate Dessert Event on the last day at sea, so many chocolate desserts, so much fun. I recommend the Chef's Table Experience for any foodie. Yes, it costs extra, but it is definitely worth it. Lastly, Guy's Burger Joint was amazing. Best burgers and fries I have had in a long time. Went there several times during the cruise.

Onboard Activities

The pool in the Adult section was great, even when crowded it was still a great place to soak up the sun. The water slide in the main pool area was fun. They also show movies over the main pool at night, so it was fun to relax in the pool and watch current movies.

Entertainment

The stage shows were interesting. Best with a drink or two. The performances were good, the singing and dancing good, just not on a broadway show level. Fun themes though: 70's music, Country music, and American Rock.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
My room steward was awesome. Very friendly and quick in servicing the room. Every bartender I had was friendly and made excellent drinks. I recommend the Red Frog Rum Bar for drinks. They make some great drinks highlighting rum and the bartenders were very attentive and quick in getting your drinks ready.

Ship Quality

I had a room on deck 9, close to the pool / bar / buffet restaurant. The layout of the ship is pretty easy to navigate and they make it easy for you to find your way around, from the elevators dinging different ways to signal if they are going up or down to the pictures of the ship pointing towards the front of the ship to help orient yourself.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very comfortable. Enough storage space to stow everything away. My only issue was the bed mattress would start to separate into its two parts during the night because, I move around a lot at night. It would be nice if they had a way to latch the two mattresses together.

Ship tip

On the first day, once you leave the Port, find a place with a view. Sailing down the Mississippi River to the Gulf is really fascinating. You will see tiny towns on the banks, houses on stilts, oil rigs in the gulf. All very neat to see.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is amazing. Do yourself a favor and spend a couple of extra days there to soak up the New Orleans culture. I went on a swamp tour, it was incredible out there, so many interesting things to see.

Cozumel, Mexico

I recommend the VIP LA Casa Beach Retreat (Adults Only). They take you to a private house with ocean access and feed you a great lunch with an open bar. It was an amazingly relaxing experience and you get the opportunity to do some snorkeling around the area. For those that want to do a little shopping, you get back with enough time to walk around the port area to shop for gifts.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

Great port to do an educational shore excursion. I went to Uxmal Mayan ruins. Seeing the pyramids was very neat plus there is one that you can climb to the top. Just do not forget water. It can be hot there, stay hydrated.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
They make disembarkation stress free. You do have to get up early, but the process is simple, the only hiccup is waiting for an elevator to take you to floor three to get off the ship.
