Review summary

We were on this cruise (our first cruise) when the hurricane decided to come visit. Because of that out little trip got unexpectedly extended. The staff was wonderful and Carnival did open the ship to shore line and the wifi at no charge to allow everyone to contact family. Overall for a first time cruise it was eventful, and fun.

Embarkation

The wait was long. Every one was helpful and courteous.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was very good. In all the locations. We made it a special priority to have breakfast in the dinning room every morning, there did not seem to be as much of a crowd there as at the buffet.

Guy's Burger Joint

1 out of 5

Tried the burgers on 2 different occasions. Both times they were dry and over cooked. Neither of us enjoyed them and burgers are usually our go to.

Pool Bar

4 out of 5

Very helpful staff everywhere and the pool bar was no exception. My only complaint is they did not appear to be as stocked as the other locations ...always out of juice of one kind or another

Washington Dining Room

5 out of 5

The room was spacious and during breakfast we sat where we could see the ocean it is very beautiful

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The pool and hot tubs were amazing, when you could get in them. They were often over run with unsupervised children! The adult area was better however it was kind of small for so many people. The games they offered were fun and some of the prizes they gave were worth being silly in front of a crowd of strangers.

Pool

1 out of 5

I understand that children will be on the ship but I expected supervision for them in some way. The jumping in onto other people and bring glassware into the water to play with!!! There were a lot of people in the pool an accident could have happened very easily.

Serenity

4 out of 5

A good location to get away from all the rambunctious children and teens however with a ship that size you'd think they would provide more than 2 hot tubs for an adults only area and there was no pool just the hot tubs.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Ok we did see most of the comedy shows because they were AMAZING. The live stage performance was good and the towel folding class was very educational even though our towel animals did look like they had been partying a little. LOL

Ivanhoe Theater

5 out of 5

The seating it a little odd but I suspect that is due to the fact that it's a ship. 😊 the sound quality is good and the ability to see the stage from almost any seat was great.

Carnival Seaside Theater

5 out of 5

They provide the movie grab a snack from the buffet and find a seat but go early or there's not going to be a seat.

Children's Programs

I did not have children with me. And some of the children on board were not supervised which allowed them to be rude and disrespectful.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward was great. He had out room cleaned every day by the time we returned from lunch. He even left us pool towels in our room. I don't think that's standard because part of our group has a balcony room and their steward did not provide them with pool towels. 😉

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The staff was always cleaning something every where you went. I don't think I saw one single place that I visited that was not well kept.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
It was small as expected but the beds were comfortable and like I said before our steward was outstanding.

Ship tip

Talk to the staff they are people too, and they have great travel stories and can often tell you the best places to visit in port.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

5 out of 5
It is a good area

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Went to Mr. Sancho's and had a wonderful time. I have recommended this excursion to several people. The port is good and the people are not very aggressive when you leave the ship

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

2 out of 5
The people are very aggressive about getting you to purchase their goods. We were lucky and had a male in our group which seemed to lessen the aggressive behavior towards us however some of the other groups were not so lucky. All the excursions are some place else and there's not much to see or do locally. If I visit this port again it will be because it's in the path to some place else and I'll most likely stay aboard.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Organization was good and the staff helpful once we were allowed in port.
