Carnival has stepped up its game

Sail Date: October 01, 2014

Reviewed: 2 years ago

Traveled As: Singles/Friends

Room Type: Balcony

The dining options for breakfast & dinner in the main dining room were varied & delicious; truly something for everyone. The Lido buffet was very ordinary & redundant so be sure to stick to the dining room.
The amenities in the balcony cabins are slim to none. Although the Carnival agent & website claim that room amenities are included (i.e.\, razer\, body lotion\, shower cap\, shampoo/conditioner\, shower gel\, etc)\, that is not the case. Only shampoo was provided. While this may be part of their cutbacks\, it should have been transparent so passengers could pack accordingly.
It seemed like every time we turned around we hit a designated smoking section. There were too many of them & often felt like it was a smoker's cruise. Regretfully\, many (smoking) passengers didn't abide by designated smoking areas and lit up when ever they felt like it. You couldn't escape it.

Pros: dining in the main dining room was scrumptous; entertainment/games/activities

Cons: smoking was too prevelant & annoying; missing room amenities

Recommends Carnival Valor? Yes!

Ship Quality
Food and Dining
The dining in the main dining room for breakfast & dinner was spectacular. The Lido buffets for breakfast\, lunch\, dinner were often cold\, redundant & way too salty.
Cabin / Stateroom
With the exception of the advertising of amenities such as razor\, toothpaste\, lotion\, etc and there wasn't one such thing - the room itself was nice. They lack the updated aspects of other ships (i.e.\, Ipod speaker/alarm\, flatscreen TV with DVD) but it was comfortable.
Draining of water in shower could use a bit of maintenance as they struggle with drain clearance issues.
Service and Staff
The staff at guest services rocked! They really try to do their best to make it a great cruise and problem-solve to the best they can.
Lots of activities\, games & entertainment. The cruise director\, Felipe\, is outstanding; probably the best in the industry. His sense of humor\, kindness\, friendliness and approachability exceeded any expectation.
