OK Cruise, but not recommended.

Sail Date: August 01, 2014

Reviewed: 2 years ago

Traveled As: Large Group

Room Type: Balcony

Ports of call were good. Only one sea day during entire trip. Ship was well maintained for an older ship and staff service was excellent.
Air conditioning was inadequate at times in certain venues such as evening dining room\, steakhouse\, and staterooms at night.
Breakfast and lunch buffets were good. Lines were way too long during peak periods.
Really resented Carnival choosing to dole out the bacon to the morning\, thus being unable to choose the amount of bacon without begging for more.

Pros: Ports of Call

Cons: Food\, lack of entertainment\, inadequare air conditioning at times

Recommends Carnival Valor? No.

Entertainment
Only 3 real live shows. Two singing and dancing shows\, and one juggler. Welcome aboard show was a horrible lecture by cruise director and I do not consider love and marriage and karaoke shows to be entertainment. they are ways for Carnival to save money on real entertainment. They do well with comedy shows as compared to other cruise lines which to some degree made up for the lack of entertainment.
Service and Staff
Cabin / Stateroom
Well maintained. Cabin Steward excellent. Air conditioning was not adequate\, especially late at night.
Food and Dining
Dining room dinners were in general terrible. Had the worst Chateaubriand ever. Portions tiny. Chose Hamburgers and pasta many times due to poor food. Went to upscale Steakhouse one night. $35 up-charge is way over the top. Steak was good\, creamed spinach was lousy\, Baked potato tiny. Deserts very unimpressive. Not worth it.
