We love to see new places, so we chose this cruise for its itinerary! Only one day at sea means more places to explore! Plus, leaving out of San Juan gave us the option of coming in early and spending some extended time in Puerto Rico! We thoroughly enjoyed this aspect of our cruise. We also enjoyed our assigned dining for dinner and our serving staff! This made every evening back on ship a special event!

As for the rest of the cruise experience, it was as expected and as it should be. Carnival has always treated us well and we have found the ships clean. The Valor is no different, although it was not the prettiest Carnival ship we've sailed, it is a pleasant environment! We choose inside cabins so we can have more to spend elsewhere! And we really appreciate the larger cabin size (compared to other cruise lines) and the fact that the combined beds make a very comfortable king-size one! We were a little disappointed in the shows, but we don't put an emphasis on them anyway. Really with the itinerary we had, we didn't need a lot to entertain us onboard, so we can't say a whole lot here other than it was average!

We did some excursions with ship, some on our own. All of our island experiences were great ones! Even if you didn't want to spend for excursions, you could enjoy getting off the ship and looking around the area shops.

We would definitely recommend this ship and this Southern Caribbean itinerary to anyone looking to see new places. If you are looking for more from the ship experience, look for more time at sea!

We soon found out that this particular cabin is located above some kind of sound/recording room for the theater, so we could hear the shows almost as though we were sitting in front of the stage. Fortunately we did not need to sleep during these times.

If you wish to get an excursion with airport transfers, you will have more options, of course, the later your flight leaves. Otherwise, you have to deal with your luggage if you want to do anything in San Juan. We had a 3:00 flight that was too early for the better excursions. If we did it again, it might be nice to stay the night.
