We had a choice to take 8 days cruise on Carnival Valor or 7 day cruise with celebrity. Since this trip covered Christmas and New Year s Day, we went with Carnival. My booking agent was trying to convince me into booking Celebrity, considering the fact that we cruised with Royal Caribbean and Costa before. Overall we had a good time. Carnival had a little less to offer - food, entertainment, cruise organization wise - but these were just additional details that didn't spoil overall experience. Like having "Day Program" on every floor, having better tasting food, etc. I would like to try Celebrity, but if I had to choose between Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Costa, it would be a matter of price and destination.

Food and Dining

Royal Caribbean had better tasting food and more food choices. It seemed that they tried hard on Carnival Valor, but somebody just didn't know how to use spices. However there are so many food choices that you will always find something that you like. They offered "Mongolian Wok" - Asian style food to order; omelets section every morning; dining room food was not bad at all, Lam chops were very good.

You must see "Comedy Hypnosis" whether on the ship or off, just Google it! I still can't believe if was for real! They had 4 comedians, 2 different each day. First 2 were great, other 2 sucked. Valor dancers and singers sucked. "Carnival Legends - actual guests show, who think they can sing, only 30% of them actually can - is worth watching, because you don't know who are you cruising with. Some pool deck games were fun to watch, because there were fun people on the ship, especially "Speedo" guy - yeah, you're now Celebrity! Even know Carnival dancers and singers sucked, outside entertainers made up for it, and I would say this ship had the best entertainment because of it's variety.

Children's Programs

We had 11 month old and 7 year old. 7 year old enjoyed programs. Have in mind they don't have anything for babies under 24 mos, even babysitting, so plan accordingly.

Service and Staff

All Room attendants were excellent; each and every one of them greeted you in hallways with the smile. The same for the buffet staff. However some of the Guest service staff and dining room staff were not as excited - I would think they get paid more then the 1st group, so what were they not happy about?

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship size, layout and quality were very comparable to Royal Caribbean. Don't have anything bad to say about it.

Cabin / Stateroom

We stayed on the aft (back) of the 2nd deck. If you're sensitive to noises, do not stay anywhere close to the aft on the lower levels. You will listen to the motor noises all day and night long - we had to go with what was available. Other then that, everything looked good

Pros: Away from the house
