This was our first cruise and we were expecting better food, and a nicer overall experience.

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The food was horrible. Buffet was gross and extremely long lines. We found slightly better in the dining room. Food was dried out, overcooked and tasted bad. Breakfast was the worst. It had the same menu, egg substitute and yucky, yucky food. I ended up eating raisin bran every day.

Entertainers mentioned they are Carnival regulars and go from ship to ship. Half the comedians were good other half not. Magician was good until last trick and then ended show in a super corny and racist (in my opinion) trick. The end of cruise show was fun but they shouldn't have multiple guests sing vary badly on stage.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Staff is comprised of individuals form developing nations. Very segregated. Dining staff was mostly men from Central and South America, steakhouse staff was women from Eastern Europe, room stewards were men from Asia and entertainment staff was British or American. Very bizarre and noticeable divisions in staff organization.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
We don't have anything to compare it to but the common areas were always overcrowded and the ship decor is gaudy and over the top.

Cabin / Stateroom

Room was adequate and functional. Bed was comfortable, storage space for everything and a desk for my husband to work from.

Carnival designed and still the same shops.
Don't Miss: We did an underground cave tour that was very imressive. Everyone enjoyed it.

Carnival designed port is yucky. Same shops very gimmicky.
Don't Miss: We did the snorkel ship wreck tour and it was great.

Not much to do in the port.
Don't Miss: We did a jungle kayaking tour and it was excellent.

Every store sells the same overpriced stuff.
Don't Miss: Allura sting ray sand bar excursion is excellent and don't purchase a snorkel trip. You can rent snorkel gear from a hut at Eden Rock just a short walk from cruise port.

Pros: Shore excursions

Cons: Food, common areas, and Carnival designed ports

Recommends Carnival Valor? No.
