7 Night Exotic Western Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Sail Date: December 12, 2010 Ship: Carnival Valor Cabin Type: Balcony Traveled As: Couple Reviewed: 7 years ago
There were so many staff members who were not friendly, who walked around with a frown on their faces and not speaking to the cruisers (in the living areas). We had a problem with one of our tours, and the staff member at the desk was sooo rude and basically indicated we were not telling him the truth. The follow through from the Guest services was not there at all -- promised but not followed through with. We felt the over-all food was not up to the standard we are used to receiving on other cruise ships.

Found the food to be mediocre when compared to cruise food. This was our 6th cruise, and this food was not anything compared to what we have had on the other cruise lines. The pastries, cakes and cupcakes were dry and not able to be eaten. I was so surprised. The only exception was the Cinnamon Walnut Cake -- excellent. The Red Velvet Cupcake was so hard I could have bounced it off the floor! Some of the entrees were cold when they were served. The soups were very good, but you cannot carry the rating of your food on the soups. The staff we had were top notch. Ante and Tre were great. They are a great asset to your cruise line. The nightly song was a great treat.

The only entertainment that was of any value in my estimation was the magician. I have seen very great entertainment on other cruise lines -- your variety show really was bad!

It was hard to find our way around the ship. Was very disappointed in the decorations for the holidays. I was expecting a more elaborate display as we have seen on other cruise ships at this time of the year.

The size of our room and the balcony was very nice. As well as our bathroom. No problems with that. The only question I have here is why do they not fill the ice buckets at night when we use them instead of the day when we are not in our rooms? Does not make sense.
The tour we took was a huge rip off. The 4x4 Jeep tour was supposed to be a 4 hour tour -- we got 2-1/2 hours out of it. We spent 40 minutes driving to the place to get the jeeps. When we first met up with the tour operator, he advised that due to the weather we were not able to have any water activities so we were to sign the back of our tickets indicating he explained this and that we would each be getting a partial refund on our tickets. We drove to a spot on the beach where we looked out at the "barrier reef," then we went to "Hell" and back to the original stop for a lunch. We spent approx. 45 min. here. We were told to be at the front at Noon sharp for the bus back to the ship. The bus was late and we wated for 45 min for him to pick us up. They could very well have let us back on the beach to wait, as it was only 20-25 feet away -- but they would not do that. It was just a bad experience all around. When we complained at the Tour Desk he was very rude
