7 Night Exotic Western Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Sail Date: October 31, 2010 Ship: Carnival Valor Cabin Type: Balcony Traveled As: Couple Reviewed: 6 years ago
We recently enjoyed a cruise on the Carnival Valor ship to the Caribbean Islands. The room was fantastic. And I would highly recommend the balcony room. We enjoyed standing on the balcony as we arrived and departed from the many different ports. The food was fantastic and plentiful. We enjoyed the meals in the dinning room so much that we attended them every night. The other restaurants throughout the ship provided a great dinning experience. I especially liked the Sushi Bar. The variety of food was so great that we did not have enough time to try all the options.
The pools and sun decks were wonderful with great service. Any time we wanted a drink it there was an attendant close by to provide one. The adults only pool area was a great option. It provided a quiet place to relax and enjoy our time. This was especially great during the one cooler day on board. The adult pool area had a retractable ceiling. On the cooler day they kept it closed and we had a nice area with natural light to relax.
The shows in the Ivanhoe Theater were great overall. The only down point was that we were on a ship with a group playing Bingo and their bingo time ran over into the show time occasionally. The rest of the entertainment on board was excellent as well. We attended several of the comedy shows in the Eagles lounge. The only suggesting I have for those on the cruise would be to get there early to make sure you get a good seat. And only sit in the front if you want the comedian to call on you.
Overall this was the best vacation I have ever had. I am looking forward to planning our next cruise.

A few of the shows were a little chaotic (wrong slides being shown, music out of place, etc.). But overall we enjoyed the ship board entertainment. We especially liked the comedians and the magic show.
Service and Staff

The staff were helpful and friendly. I never witnessed a staff person complaining about anything. Many of them would spend the time to talk to you and share interesting stories.

We loved the balcony room. It was great to stand out on the balcony and watch the sunrise every morning. We also enjoyed the view of the ports as we arrived. i would suggest the balcony room for all. The room was a great size compared to the interior rooms and the large glass door gives the room a real sense of openness.
Make sure and plan an excursion for Belize. There is little to do at this port if you do not plan an excursion. We went to the Mayan Ruins. This was a great location to see the Ruins. There is so much to do at Cozumel that this will give you different options. We again booked this excursion through CruisesOnly and had a great experience. There were only six of us on the excursion so it was a very intimate excursion. Really a private tour. The woman guiding the tour was of Mayan background which added to the experience. She also was very flexible and, when asked, took us to a shopping center outside the port which saved us a lot of money. Everything was half the price as on the port.
Don't Miss: Mayan Ruins
The Stingray City and snorkeling is a must. You don't want to miss the opportunity to handle the stingrays. We went on the excursion provided by cruisesonly partner site. The staff was wonderful and provided squid to feed the stingrays. They also were flexible enough to make sure that we had the best experience.
Don't Miss: Stingray City
Because of the weather most of the water activities were closed at this port. We had already planned to spend the day at the beach at the Playamia beach. The open bar was fantastic. The drinks were great. The all you can eat buffet was excellent as well. (and a good idea with an open bar). The service was excellent. They were constantly walking through the beach chair area taking orders. If could have stayed in one spot all day and had all your drinks brought to you.
Don't Miss: Playamia Beach.
We enjoyed the beach on this trip, but would have preferred to go to the park and see the monkeys. I did here that the monkeys were a little aggressive so is not for everyone. One lady told us that a monkey slapped her on the head, but she was laughing while telling us. The beach was nice. The water did not have a pleasant odor so we did not spend a lot of time in it. But the beach was great with lots of food and drinks available.
Don't Miss: Park Monkey Experience
Pros: The service was fantastic. Everything we needed was provided quickly.
Cons: Some of the ship board entertainment was a mess and a waste of time.
