We are Diamond members on Royal Carribean. We have sailed a number ofy times with Holland America and were convinced by Agent to try Carnival (same family) as it was a newer ship and had interesting ports of call. We didn't expect the quality to be as poor in food and service. Bedding was at all comfortable by other ships standards. The lack of information on simple things like weather reports was non existant. Annoying was the high volume of speaker(s) use by the cruise director, so much that it was difficult at times to continue conversations. Service personnel at the desks in the lobby were at times rude and short....it seemed to me that a course in PR was severly lacking. Telephone service on the ship (department to department) was poor, many times no one picked up at the other end, you were cut off, given short answers and disconnected. I was angered at one point when trying to explain, during the life jacket drill, that my wife could not stand for any length of time as she is disabled with Multiple Scklerosis...I got the "deer in the headlights" reaction. The shops did not have enough personnel and/or cash registers in operation as people were lined up out in the corrider for lenths of time. Other than a couple of shows in the evvening it was quite booring with only the casino.

Pros: Ports of call we haven't been to is why we went

Cons: food quality, lack of information, crew was only 50/50 for service and helpfulness

Recommends Carnival Valor? No.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico
Left commercial shopping area rented a golf cart and ventured into small village 3 miles in. Wonderful people, courteous, happy to serve, prices of goods in shops markedly cheaper than shops at port.
Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras
Very poor country, nothing there
Belize City, Belize
Took bus tour of Belize and all we saw was poverty and neighborhoods. We did not see anything else for 2 hours (supposed to be 2 1/2 hours)
