We recently returned from a cruise on the Valor. We picked it because of the itinerary. We have cruised multiple times, but went with someone who had never gone before. We were expecting an average cruise, and got less than that. Starting with a late flight and delay in transfers, the life boat drill had already started when we got on board. Since we had cruised before we had an idea how things worked, thank goodness. Since no one offered to help us once we stepped foot on board, just that we needed our life vests?. Bags in hand we found a deck map that we used to find our cabin. The one room stewart we found to ask for directions, sent us the wrong way. No role call at the life boat, how do they know everyone made it?
We enjoyed Rosies, the grill and the pizza parlor and the deli all week. This offered something different for everyone, always lots of options, and we got to avoid the late service in the dinning rooms. We got to eat what we wanted any time we wanted, always something somewhere. We have been served in the past, but enjoyed the more relaxed option on this trip. and less luggage.
The bar service was something else, few and far between. On deck during the day we had to get our own, once they realized all we wanted was water and soda they never came back. The servers seemed to like hanging around the pool or standing around talking with each other rather than serving. The pool area was way to loud. With the sound system in place, the cruise director staff doesnt have to yell, there is nothing worse than someone yelling, than someone yelling into a microphone. Way to loud to enjoy.
One of our party wanted to make frequent stops in the photo gallery and shops. Every time we went into the photo gallery, the crew outright ignored us and everyone around us. No one to answer questions, if you walked up to one register, they would make everyone walk over to the other even with someone standing behind the counter. No wonder there are scanners around, it would be better than being ignored. As for the shops, we had to stand in line behind crew shopping? What is with that? With all the lines of passengers waiting to be serviced, why should we have to stand behind crew.
We enjoyed the quiet, sitting on the deck under the life boats. Not real crowded, some sun some shade.
Overall the crew really seemed complacent. They would make passengers wait for them to go by instead of stepping aside. They dont say excuse me or pardon me. I watched one lady get run over as the crew just pushed his way thru and never said sorry, excuse me or ever offered to help the lady? Not one person asked how we were doing at any point. With the special service we have had in the past, this service was disappointing to say the least. and the fun ships?? sorry didnt see any of that. The same old entertaiment, same OLD skits, no deck entertainment at night, and the band that was on board played anything but island music. You should call Up-Ryzin. The deck crew was more than pushy to get you out of their chairs even before sunsets, with the railing full of people wanting to watch it. Remember we dont see that everyday. They would pace until you got up, if you went to the bar they would grab it. No were to sit comfortably on deck at night. No chairs unless you waited for the crew to leave and untie them again. Still didnt see any fun?

Pros: we chose this cruise because of the itinerary.

Cons: passanger contact crew was truly unhelpful, ignored us and others, fun ships? the deck crew was more than pushy to get you out of their deck chairs so they could tie them up for the night even, early even before sunset. we would wait till they left then untie them and drag them back out again.

Recommends Carnival Valor? Yes!

Philipsburg, St. Maarten
Go to the french side, they have really built it up. The old peir area is wondeful, the walk way and the beach is all fixed. there wasnt a beach the last time we were here. and of course had to go thru the market.
Don't Miss: See the view from th fort. The whole area is really fixed up nice.

Nassau, Bahamas
Been here in the past, wanted to do something different, so we found a local cab driver and asked him to give us his tour of the island. Very informative and friendly. Good window shopping.
Don't Miss: Treasure island and the forts.

went with someone who has never been before so we took the best of tour which was good but the bus was real full. The island has alot to offer, get off the beaten path, walk the streets meet the locals.
Don't Miss: the skyride and drinks while over looking the city and port.
