7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip)
Sail Date: May 04, 2008
Ship: Carnival Valor
Cabin Type: Inside
Traveled As: Couple

Carnival Valor was a clean and artistic ship. Well-planned. The main atrium was very cool and the lounges gave an american prestige feeling.

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
If you've never been on a cruise you'd probably be pleased, but other cruise lines clearly have Carnival beat. The main-dining room food was mediorce and the small little items such as coffee and salads were rather bland, a sign that the food is often covered up. The buffet was a bright spot as it offered many choices and decent quality.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Many so called activites listed on the program were not free (i.e. 20 dollar bingo or casino slot events). Other cruise lines clearly have Carnival beat. The comic shows at night were very good though.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Many activities for young children and teens that allow parents to drop their kids off and forget about them, but the whole ambiance of the ship is about drinking a lot and forgetting the past, something which I don't think I'd want to have my future kids experience.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Housekeeping service did their job, but never personalized the experience. Dining Room staff was more interested in getting you to spend money on booze, than to actually serve you and get to know you. Again, if you've never been on a cruise, you'll probably feel taken care of, but other cruise lines have Carnival beat. If you're looking to drink and party, this is your cruise line, if you're looking for a romantic getaway or a nice family vacation, stay away from Carnival.

Inside Room... was what I expected... no need to get anything else.

One of my favorite ports that I've ever cruised to. The island is half French and half Dutch which makes for an amazing cultural experience. You dock in the Dutch side, but be sure to take a boat to the French capitol. We visited a little French cafe and then headed out to another top 10 beach.
Don't Miss: Orient Beach and Downtown Shopping... Note- beach is a "European" (clotiong optional) beach

Be sure to visit Maegan's Bay, rated as one of the top 10 beaches in the world. There is an admission charge to this beach so booking a shore excursion that involves the beach might be in your best interest.
Don't Miss: Magen's Bay & Downtown Shopping

We arrived at 7 am and had to be back on the boat by 130 pm and nothing was open til close to 10. The port was dirty and smelled so bad we walked around for a bit and then went back to the boat.
