7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip)
Sail Date: September 10, 2006
Ship: Carnival Valor
Cabin Type: Oceanview
Traveled As: Family (older children)
Reviewed: 7 years ago
We were on the ship in less than 1/2 hour and got our bags at around 3:30, lines were fast and everyone was efficient. Unfortunatly leaving the ship was our slowest experience, through no fault of Carnival. They lost power in terminal for about 45 min, so customs lines were very slow. Carnival personal were very helpful during this mini disaster.

This is our first Carnival Cruise since 1987, we've done over 30, mostly NCL with a few Princess thrown in. We will not wait another 19 years for our next Carnival:) In fact a friend's sister works for Carnival, I'm going to try to get adopted:)

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Some outstandng dinner entrees, better than current NCL and on par with best of Princess. Rosie's for lunch is crowded, eat upstairs, but choices are amazing. Seafood, sandwiches, multilpe buffet lines and chineese, you're going to find something you'll enjoy. If not, there is alway stuff from outside grill or pizza. Breakfast in dinning room served faster than any ship we've been on. They had two midnight buffets, other nights you have the pizza spot and grill open. They made a goat cheese pie that became a nightly ritual.

Entertainment

100 dB sound ruined most shows, I asked the sound tech. Stage company was OK, male singer was great, they did 2 big shows and were part of a unique, fun passenger talent show, don't miss it. Featured performers were 3 comedians ranging from funny to "I neede the extra sleep anyway". The featured singers couldn't be fairly evaluated when my ears hurt. I would have liked a bit more varity in the featured acts.
Other inside activities compared to Princess or recent NCL trips were poorly done. That has to fall at the feet of the worst cruise director we have had in 30 cruises.

Children's Programs

We didn't partivcipate, but the kids sure looked like they were having fun. Parrents we spoke to loved it.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Big ship that was very easy to learn, plenty of staircases and elevators. Ship was spotless.
Decor theme a bit strange, but never tasteless.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Large room, well set up, with great beds. Only minor complaints is that safe uses your credit card not a number, maybe all Carnival passengers are suppose to drink enough to forget numbers. You never knew when in-room movies would start, they need to indicate start times on screen on on a schedule.

Pros: Great cabin, friendly staff, very good food overall

Cons: Painfully loud sound spoiled most shows, worst cruise director ever:(
