Review summary

This was a family Christmas vacation with our adult children and their significant others. If I was to book this again, I would book directly with Carnival and skip American. I had to make a change to one of our cabins and American charges $100 to do it. American also made a mistake with their billing. Because of all the kids on board there is a lot of noise in the hallways at all hours. Overall, we all enjoyed it.

Embarkation

Ship was 3 hours late due to weather and even though they asked everyone to adjust their embarkation time, it was chaotic

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was acceptable. I did miss the option of more specialty restaurants on this small ship. We had signed up when making our cruise reservation to be notified for the captains table dining and then never heard anything.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the comedy club and illusionist.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff were great!

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Awkward dead ends. Our cabin looked recently refurbished. There was none of the pink tile in the bathroom I had read in other reviews.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Everything was as expected. Lot's of storage and clean. My only complaints would be the lack of counter space in the bathroom and no coffee pot in the room.

Ship tip

Be prepared for bad coffee everywhere on board.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

What's not to love about New Orleans! We spent two extra days here after the cruise.

Cozumel, Mexico

We spent our day here at Mr. Sancho's Beach Club. Enjoyed the day spent with our family. It was a great swimming beach.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

We did another beach club excursion. This port will eventually get overrun with commercial tourist spots, right now it's still an authentic Mexican town. We were the first tourists to go to this new beach club. The food they served was excellent and very authentic. They could use some small side tables by the loungers as there is no place to set your drink. They need to clear out all the stickers from the vegetation.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
As good as could be expected
