We enjoyed the port of New Orleans as we had never been there before and the ease of getting on the ship. The Triumph is a small ship and was easy to navigate and find your way around. It did get very tight on the Lido deck in areas and made getting through food areas difficult. The food lines were long if you went during the prime lunch hour and the burrito line at Blue Iguana moved very slow. Go early to get a seat at the comedy club as it fills up early. Definitely get the Cheers drink package. I would have hated to see what we would have spent on drinks without it.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
It was a breeze getting on the ship and took no time at all. I had not sailed in over 10 years and could not believe how fast we were aboard. It took less than a half hour.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Blue Iguana was our main spot to eat breakfast and lunch. Guys was good for burgers on the days we did not eat burritos. I am not a buffet person but the day I did try it everything was cold, felt like I was eating at an Old Country Buffet, not for me. We enjoyed the main dining room, though the menu seemed to be the same as when I cruised on Carnival 10 years ago. After a night at the bars the Pizza Pirate was the stop before heading to the room for pizza and sandwiches. Get the Cheers package and then some with all you can drink bottled water, specialty coffee, soda, and 15 alcoholic drinks. They will let you know when you are on drink 14.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
There were not a lot of activities that were interesting to me on this ship.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The comedians, John Wessling and Roman, were entertaining as was Brad in the piano bar. We enjoyed the bands that played by the World's Bar in the casino area.
Children's Programs
Left the children at home for this vacation
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Allan at the World's Bar is hand's down the best bartender on the ship. Our steward, Ivan was accomadating and did a great job.
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
The ship's layout was easy to find your way around. I give it two stars due to the sewage smell in areas throughout the ship. It was very overwhelming in hallway areas and one night in the piano bar that even the staff was trying to figure out what to do about it. Quite a few of the other guests on board mentioned the smell to us also and said they would not cruise on the Triumph again because of this. I had read the reviews before booking this cruise and decided to chance it. There is definitely something going on with the smell in this ship.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Cabin was in good condition and great size. Tons of storage. Balcony was nice but we hardly used it at all as we were not in the room that much.
Ship tip
The staff makes the ship. If it were not for the staff on the ship making it a fun experience, I would not sail on this ship.
It is hard to rate the disembarkation process fairly because it is not entirely Carnival's fault. The real problem is that people choose to not follow directions or think they are above having to follow directions which makes for a long disembarking process.
