Review summary

Cozumel was beautiful as usual. Progreso is awful. Carnival shouldn't even stop there. The place is filthy and smells. We booked an excursion with the Dune buggies, don't bother they are worn out. Just stay away from Progreso.

We took a tour or Merida. It was very informative and interesting. We also went to some Mayan Ruins the time before that. I found both to be great trips.

we did the Dzibilchaltun ruins and Merida trip last time. We LOVED it. The ruins were amazing, nice air-conditioned bus, they have a cenote you can swim in after climbing ruins. Merida was gorgeous. We had a great time.

Progreso is only a cruise stop due to it being the closest port to Chichen Itza, where more than 1.7 million people visit annually. That's why ships stop there.

We did Silcer Beach all-inclusive through shoreexcursioneer.com and it was a great beach day! only had to walk 1 block from the bus station and they took us there and drove us right back to the boat, even stopped at a photo op spot on the way. We loved it.

We've been to Progreso a couple of times and I'd prefer not to go back. Definitely not the kind of place I feel comfortable walking around with my kids.

My last progresso trip was hit or miss. Booked a resort beach. The resort beach was awesome but getting there was sketch. Had to take a shuttle to the bus station. That place was scary to say the least. Then the van picked us up after about an hour for another hour drive. We will stay on the ship if we stop at progresso again.

We love Progreso. We always get a cheap, but amazing massage, and then go to Technotel all inclusive beach. I eventually want to do a cenote excursion. Don't give up on Progreso, just book an excursion. You'll see it's actually pretty amazing.
