5 Night Western Caribbean (Galveston Roundtrip) Sail Date: September 15, 2012 Ship: Carnival Triumph Cabin Type: Balcony Traveled As: Couple Reviewed: 5 years ago
This was our first cruise and we were very impressed with the service we received from check-in to debarkation. Staff was very service-oriented and friendly. The ship has a little wear for it's age but was in great condition overall. The cruise was out of Galveston and our fellow cruisers were mostly Texans. Unfortunately that meant a lot of smokers and Carnival does allow smoking in some public areas and on the cabin balconies. The food was good, and plentiful, but not great. We are not party types but were able to find quiet places to relax on the ship.
Food and Dining

The food was good\, but not great. We are foodies but knew ahead of time that Carnival isn't known for high quality food so we were not disappointed. Often the sides and entrees in the dining rooms was the same as the buffet. There was a good variety available though. The dining room service and evening dinner show were great\, we did anytime dining and requested a table for two each night and had little or no wait to get one. The dining staff even remebered after the second night that we wanted a table for two. The ambiance was nice\, but dress code wasn't very well enforced. We did see a guy in an undershirt be turned away\, but pretty much other attire besides swimsuits was allowed.

Activities leaned towards the party crowd\, which we are not interested in. Although we enjoyed bingo\, watching some of the \"game shows\" and the comedy club. Some of the activites are actually sales pitches for the spa\, art auction\, shopping and shore exursions.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
We are picky about service and were not disappointed at all. Carnival staff could give Disney a run for their money in this area. From the cabin steward to the Captain we were greeted warmly and with a smile.

The ship was very clean and although showing a little wear\, staff was constantly at work cleaning\, or in some cases\, painting while in port. That was nice to see. The layout was pretty easier to figure out\, especially for us on our first cruise.
Cabin / Stateroom

We were impressed with the size of our stateroom\, which was enhanced by having a balcony. Our ice bucket was refreshed twice a day\, as well as the cabin cleaned and towels refreshed. Loved the towel animals every night with the turndown service! We were on the Verandah deck towards the bridge and it was very quiet\, with the exception of a few noisy neighbors. The balcony was wonderful and furnished with two chairs and a small table. We spent a lot of time there but were sometimes forced to go back in when neighbors smoked - Carnival allows that in a few public areas and on stateroom balconies.
Pros: Service\, number of activities\, quiet areas
