5 Night Western Caribbean (New Orleans Roundtrip) Sail Date: March 28, 2011 Ship: Carnival Triumph Cabin Type: Suite Traveled As: Couple Reviewed: 7 years ago
The ship was old, small and outdated. But that in itself would have been "ok" if the food, service or amenities were great -- but they weren't.
Food and Dining

The majority of the food was "ok" -- nothing was great and a lot was terrible. The service was hit or miss, mostly miss. For instance, it was very common to ask for a drink at dinner, even a fill up of water, and either they would forget or it would take them 30 minutes.
If you didn't want to dine in the main dining room, the other option was a buffett, which boasted incredibly long lines.

Most of the shows were good and there was a good variety. The opening "welcome aboard" show in the main theater was a dissapointment and dragged on. The comedian was good. The magic show and burlesque show were also good.
For activities, there were a couple of times a scheduled sports activity simply didn't happen. For instance, I went to enter into the basketball freethrow contest and when I got there, they were sanding the floors of the court. No warning, just simply decided not to do it and clean the floors instead.
Service and Staff

In general, the staff was nice. However, the dining staff was slow and less responsive than other cruises I've been on. The spa staff was friendly.
If you were laying out on the pool deck, however, expect to wait 30 minutes to an hour for your ordered drink to arrive.

Once you get used to the layout, it was fairly easy to find your way around. The ship offered plenty of bar and sitting areas, which was nice. Public areas seemed to be well kept. Decor was a little outdated, but that was to expected for a ship this old.
With that being said, most of the bathrooms had a foul odor and weren't the cleanest.
Cabin / Stateroom

We booked a junior suite and it was spacious with a good layout. The TV was set too high but that wasn't a big deal. There was a jetted tub, but honesty it was too narrow to relax in. Still, the bathroom area and vanity areas added enough extra room for added comfort.
