SAILED: 12/01/02 WESTERN CARIBBEAN, BEST HIGHLIGHT OF OUR CRUISE: BEING UPGRADED FOR FREE FROM OUR ORIGINAL BOOKED CABIN RIVIERA INSIDE CABIN TO THE SPA DECK OCEAN VIEW CABIN, THE WINDOW TOOK UP ONE ENTIRE WALL AND THE ROOM WAS ONLY STEPS FROM THE LIDO DECK, PERFECT ROOM LOCATION. FOOD: WONDERFUL, SMALL PORTIONS IN THE DINING ROOM, BUT WHO CARES? YOU CAN ORDER AS MUCH AS YOU WANT. MY HUSBAND ORDERED THREE LOBSTER TAILS AND THE WAITER DIDN'T ACT SUPRISED. THE GUY AT THE TABLE NEXT TO US ORDERED MASHED POTATOES EVERYNIGHT AND THEY WERE NEVER EVEN ON THE MENU BUT HE GOT THEM. WE ATE MOST OF OUR LUNCHES ON THE LIDO DECK, THE PIZZERIA BEING A BIG HIT WITH YUMMY CEASAR SALADS. THE SANDWICH BAR WAS ALSO A GOOD CHOICE, WE EVEN GOT SOME SANDWICHES AND BROUGHT THEM ON THE ISLANDS FOR LUNCH. THE HONG KONG NOODLE FACTORY CAN BE PASSED WHEN IT IS OPEN. ENTERTAINMENT: THE ACTIVITIES DURING SEA DAYS WERE A NICE REPRIEVE FROM OUTSIDE, QUITE COMICAL, ESPECIALLY THE NEWLEYWED GAMES.THE CRUISE DIRECTOR CAN MAKE OR BREAK A CRUISE, AND OURS WAS THE BEST. THE NIGHTLY SHOWS WERE PRETTY COMPARABLE TO LAS VEGAS- STYLE SHOWS, SOME EVEN BETTER. WE REALLY LIKED THE MAGIC SHOW. WE NEVER DID MAKE IT UP LATE ENOUGH TO GO TO THE DISCO CLUB AFTERWARDS, THOUGH WE HEARD IT WAS GREAT AND WILL DEFINITELY DO IT NEXT TIME. ISLANDS: COZUMEL AND GRAND CAYMAN WERE WELL WORTH IT, BUT COULD HAVE SKIPPED JAMAICA. DUNNS RIVER FALLS WAS GORGEOUS, BUT IF YOU GO ON THE TOUR OF THE ISLAND YOU DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME AT THE OTHER PLACES TO SHOP FOR SOUVENIERS. OUR FAVORITE SHORE EXCURSION WAS SNORKELING WITH THE STINGRAYS IN GRAND CAYMAN. I WAS REALLY SCARED AT FIRST, BUT THE PEOPLE THAT WORK THERE TAKE AWAY ALL YOUR FEARS AND THE STINGRAYS PUT ME IN AWE WHEN BEING ABLE TO TOUGH THEM AND FEED THEM AND HAVE THEM SWIM THROUGH YOUR LEGS. COZUMEL- WE WENT TO CARLOS AND CHARLIES, DON'T EAT THERE -- IT WILL COST YOU MORE THAN YOU PAY FOR MEXICAN FOOD BACK HOME AND THE PORTIONS ARE SMALLER, BUT IT IS A GOOD PLACE TO DRINK. DID OUR BEST SHOPPING ON COZUMEL. FOR YOUR MONEY AND EVERYTHING YOU GET TO SEE AND EXPERIENCE, I AM SOLD ON CRUISES, WE WENT ON TWO THIS YEAR AND HAVE ALREADY BOOKED OUR NEXT ONE ON CARNIVAL. DON'T GO EXPECTING EVERYTHING TO BE PERFECT OR LOOK FOR THE BAD, OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE A BAD TIME. OUR AIR CONDITIONING IN OUR ROOM DIDN'T WORK THE FIRST COUPLE DAYS OF THE CRUISE, BUT WE DIDN'T LET IT RUIN THE ENTIRE VACATION, OUR ROOM STEWARD GOT US A FAN AND TOOK CARE OF EVERYTHING. THE ROOM STEWARD AND ASSISTANT WAITER WORK, IN MY OPINION, THE HARDEST TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE ALWAYS HAPPY. THE TOWEL ANIMALS ARE CUTE.THE ASSISTANT WAITER ALWAYS HAD WHAT YOU WANTED AFTER JUST THE FIRST NIGHT WITHOUT HAVING TO ASK. DRINKS ARE STRONGER THAN THE BARS BACK HOME, IN MY OPINION, AND COMPARABLE IN PRICE. JUST GO WITH THE DRINK SPECIAL OF THE DAY AND YOU CAN'T MISS. ORDER A BOTTLE OF WINE AT DINNER AND WHATEVER YOU DON'T DRINK, THEY WILL CORK THE BOTTLE AND BRING IT OUT TO YOU THE NEXT NIGHT. ALSO, IF ANYONE IN YOUR PARTY DRINKS SODA, DEFINITELY GET THE FOUNTAIN DRINK CARD OR BUY IT ON THE ISLANDS AND KEEP IT ON ICE IN YOUR ROOM. ALSO, STAY AWAY FROM THE BOTTLED WATER IN YOUR ROOM, AS YOU PAY ASTRONOMICAL PRICES. AGAIN, GET SOME ON THE ISLANDS NEAR THE DOCK AND PAY LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE. ENJOY YOUR CRUISE -- HAVE FUN AND DON'T GO LOOKING FOR THINGS TO DISLIKE, NOTHING IS EVER PERFECT -- IT IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT.
