Not a good time

Sail Date: October 01, 2009

Traveled As: Family w/young children

Room Type: Oceanview

First time cruising with Carnival on the Triumph and not very happy with it.

Pros: Camp Carnival, Shows

Cons: Buffet, smoking, layout of the ship

Recommends Carnival Triumph? No.

Ship Quality
The layout is confusing at time with having to use different elevators to get to different parts of the ship. Way to many open areas for the smoking. Ship was always smelling of smoke in many ares. Overall clean ship and the decor was nice.
Food and Dining
The buffet on the lido deck was terrible. Long lines with waiting up to 15 mins. Its like a cafeteria and the food selection was very limited and the quality of the food was average. No kid food items on the buffet unless you child ate with Camp Carnival. Was not allowed to use that food and not happy with that. Got tired of asking for milk when they only put it out for breakfast. Limited drink stations. The dining room wasn't much better. The location is terrible when the ship is moving and you feel the engines. The food, again was average and they only offered a kids menu at dinner. The portions were o.k, and not a enough vegetables at the buffet or the dining room.
Service and Staff
Other then our cabin steward I thought the rest of crew wasn't very nice. Never went out their way to be nice or helpful. A few times I asked for something it was done, but acted as I put them out. The information and excursion desk crew were o.k., but it seemed everyone except those pushing the alcohol were never in a great mood.
Cabin / Stateroom
Very happy with our ocean view room. Roomy for 2 adults and one child and very clean. Our cabin steward was great and very nice. Great towel animals every night. Did smell smoke a lot going down the hallways.
Entertainment
Great shows with beautiful costumes and wonderful entertainment. The Rio Lounge is small and get there early for the shows or you'll be left standing.
Children's Programs
Camp Carnival was great and my 5 yr old had a wonderful time and didn't want to leave. They kept her very busy and she had many crafts when she returned. Very surprised at the trick or treatin' the last night.
