4 Night Canada/New England (New York Roundtrip)
Sail Date: August 20, 2009
Ship: Carnival Triumph
Cabin Type: Oceanview
Reviewed: 8 years ago
The ship itself is mostly nice. It is clean and has some beautiful areas. However the hallways and theater seats are dreary and could use updating. The whirlpools (all 7) were out of order completely. The staterooms are relatively spacious and are kept clean. When it became clear that we could not continue to St John due to Hurricane Bill, the ship turned back 24 hours after we left New York. We were back off Long Island by the next afternoon. Rather than letting us off, the ship went in a circle, off Long Island from Saturday afternoon until early Monday morning. This was despite very heavy surf and some scary moments at the height of the storm. It was a miserable experience.

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The dining room food is especially good. The buffet food is good except for breakfast which needs improvement.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
The "funstaff" told corny jokes and were so fake. There was lots of bingo and silly trivia games. Only a few were allowed to participate. If you were in the balcony of the theater, you were considered to be in the "cheap seats"' and could only participate on the bottom floor.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward was just so helpful and the dining room staff was very good.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The hallways and theater seats need updating. The whirlpools don't work. The layout can be confusing but that is not a big deal to get used to.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The stateroom was spacious, the beds and sofa were comfortable and it was well kept. We were at the very back of the boat which means there is engine noise and perhaps the high surf was more rough in that location.

Pros: The stewards and waiters/waitresses were helpful & attentive and the room was comfortable, clean & spacious

Cons: That they did not let us off the boat after cancelling the port of call stop and circled off Long Island for 2 days despite high waves and bad conditions.

Recommends Carnival Triumph? No.
