Never Again with Carnival

Sail Date: May 10, 2008

Reviewed: 9 years ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Inside

We were put in a TINY cabin with 2 bunk beds, we are a married couple in our 40's. This cabin was directly above the Show Lounge. When we complained of the noise to the wee hours, they gave us a bottle of champagne (we don't drink). Finallly, on the 5th night they moved us to another deck where the cabin stewards communicated with each other by shouting down the corridor. On the final day, we found out we were getting charged for missing beverages out of the cabin they moved us to. They did not remove these from our billing statement.

The food was unappetizing and had very little variety. The best thing was the soft-serve ice cream and french fries. We have been on numerous cruises (three other Carnivals, no less) and were very disappointed. We declined all tipping to the food service as the food did not warrant it.

Pros: The Ports of Call

Cons: Extremely noisy cabin, bunk beds for older married couple, unappetizing food.

Recommends Carnival Triumph? No.

Food and Dining
Food had no variety and lacked quality. They offered cookies that appeared and tasted pre-packaged.
Cabin / Stateroom
Very hard to sleep with the speakers for the Show Lounge right under our cabin. Bunk beds are not appropriate for a married couple in their 40's. The cabin was nothing like pictured in promo.
Ship Quality
Cleanliness was not what we have come to expect. I walked by deserted dishes for up to 8 hours before someone removed them. Several of the public bathrooms smelled of mildew. I am allergic to mildew and molds, so I detected it right away. Our cabin was very nicely serviced though and steward was accommodating.
Service and Staff
Very friendly, but nothing was done until I asked for the address and number of the corporate office.
Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)
Very clean, but no ambience. Too new and sterile as most cruise line owned islands are.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
Very nice walk to town. Too many barkers in the stores and taxi drivers trying to take you places.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Great old farts and old town.
Grand Turk Island
Cruise terminal area very clean and spacious. A walk into town is depressing with all the garbage and poverty. My husband went to a liquor store to get some water ...... turns out it was a private residence with coolers of beer.
