Not really a Triumph for Carnival

Sail Date: January 13, 2007

Reviewed: 9 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Inside

The ship is dated in appearance and there is nothing luxurious about it. The cabin bathrooms need better cleaning and maintenance. Smoking seems to be permitted everywhere on the ship, which is extremely bothersome to non-smokers. The ship also has only two shops, which makes for long lines and poor selection.

Pros: Our waiters at dinner were very friendly and pleasant

Cons: Camp Carnival program is not convenient at all

Recommends Carnival Triumph? No.

Children's Programs
We have four children, who were placed in three different age groups for Camp Carnival. Any time they attended Camp, we had to bring them to either two or sometimes three different locations. By the time we dropped them off, we often had about an hour and a half to relax before we had to pick them up again (camp is frequently closed). The schedule for activities is difficult to follow...when we had questions, even the Purser's desk couldn't help us. It is often difficult to figure out where to drop your children, as they utilize lounges as "play areas" for some age groups. The rules regarding who can drop off kids at camp are ridiculously strict, yet you can authorize anyone to take your child out of camp. It was extremely frustrating and poorly designed. The camp program really left us with frustration much more than relaxation.
Service and Staff
In general, staff were not very friendly and did not go above and beyond.
Entertainment
During days at sea, there was almost nothing to do.
Ship Quality
Food and Dining
Food was fine, but unexceptional. We had late dinner seating, which really seemed to go on for a long time...we barely made the shows that started two hours after we started dinner.
Cabin / Stateroom
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Our itinerary had us arrive at this port at 5 pm and depart at midnight. We toured the city in the dark. It was a useless stop...wouldn't even count it as a stop.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
