A fun cruise thanks to the excursions

Sail Date: July 08, 2006

Traveled As: Family (older children)

Room Type: Inside

We sailed on Carnival Triumph and were all mildly disappointed. There were 2 pools both of which were very small and 5 spa tubs which were suppossed to be off-limits to children under 18 except that's who was in them most of the time. Some of the areas were elegant looking while others were not at all. It was also very difficult to find our dining room the first day as there was no direct route or signage to the area.

Pros: Fun games and entertainment

Cons: the quality of the ship

Ship Quality
Food and Dining
We were disappointed with the dining. The food was not as good as cruise food usually is and the presentation was also lacking. The buffet was very similar to a cafeteria line in a high school.
Also, we felt that it was ridiculous to have to pay for soft drinks and juices. But, unless you were happy drinking fruit punch, apple juice or lemonade the whole week, you had to pay for anything else you wanted.
Cabin / Stateroom
We were in an interior stateroom so we did not expect much. It was small but the beds were comfortable enough. However, one of our bunk beds was slanted and looked to be in need of repair which made it a little scary for both the person on top and the person underneath.
We could not find any climate control so it was very cold in there the whole time. We also never got a "do not disturb" sign until the 5th day and I had to request things like toilet paper because it was not stocked as expected.
Service and Staff
It was very difficult to ask a question of most staff members who did not speak English very well. The outside dining staff was continously in the way with their carts and had an annoying habit of trying to clear the table before we were actually finished.
Entertainment
The entertainment was good. The cruise director was very personable and his assistants were fun. We joined in on most of the onboard games and attended almost every show. Very nice job!
Ocho Rios, Jamaica
Loved Jamiaca! Everything was "no problem!"
Don't Miss: Swim with the dolphins and climb Dunn's River Falls....it was a blast!
George Town, Grand Cayman
We snorkeled in the coral reefs and swam with the stingrays. Downside, the water was choppy and there were too many tourists. Upside, the water is beautiful as are the fish. And our tour guides were friendly and fun!
Cozumel, Mexico
We hit a local beach and had a great time snorkeling and sunbathing. The locals were great and very helpful in finding a nice beach. The taxi drivers were friendly, helpful and came back to get us when we were done.
Don't Miss: Senor frogs.....just go and have a drink or two...you'll see.
