Review summary

We had a great time! We went in with reserved expectations and we were pleasantly surprised. Very casual and fun which is what we wanted. The food far exceeded our expectations! Loved Bimini!

Embarkation

For all the negativity I read beforehand about the unconventional and inconvenient cruise port terminal, it all went very smoothly. From car to stepping on the ship was about 30 minutes. We did not stand in line for more than 2 minutes anywhere. The process kept moving.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We did not have a bad meal anywhere and there were so many options. We never did eat in the Lido Marketplace. We’re just not into big buffets.

Bonsai Sushi

5 out of 5

We eat sushi quite frequently and this was the best we have had in quite awhile! Worth the extra charge which wasn’t even that much.

RedFrog Pub

5 out of 5

Perfect little pub away from the crowds.

Sunrise Dining Room

5 out of 5

We ate dinner here twice and breakfast 3 mornings. The dinners were very good. My only gripe is that my seafood pasta was lacking much of the seafood serving portion. But the pasta and sauce were very good. All the wait staff were very attentive.

Alchemy Bar

5 out of 5

Great ambiance. Bartenders remembered us and had 2nd rounds ready to pour. The bartenders at all the bars were probably the hardest working bunch of the whole ship. They were always busy. You may have to be patient at times, but you will be well taken care of. They deserve the extra tips!

JiJi Asian Kitchen

5 out of 5

Highly recommend! Excellent meal!

Piano Bar 88

3 out of 5

A little claustrophobic. Need a bigger venue for this, so we didn’t go back. The pianist was good though.

Ocean Plaza

5 out of 5

Great spot for music entertainment. The Sunshine Band was great! Helpful hint: they serve a very good small barbecue buffet on embarkation day. Good food; not crowded.

Main Lounge Bar

5 out of 5

Good people watching spot! Again, hard working bartenders!

Onboard Activities

Need more pools or a bigger pool!

Beach Pool

3 out of 5

Too small and too crowded.

Sky Track

2 out of 5

A bit small. One of the disappointing things on this ship is that there is not a full outdoor promenade that encircles the whole ship.

Serenity Pool

5 out of 5

Very refreshing. Waterfall is a nice touch.

Serenity

A nice place to go relax, but a bit too crowded at times.

Sunshine Atrium

Always good music playing and great people watching spot.

Service and Staff

They all work very hard and give great service with a smile.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The Sunshine was very clean and well-maintained. It is a bit dated looking, but never really noticed any obvious wear and tear. I give 3 stars for the ship design. The layout is quite confusing. The galley and Limelight Lounge cuts off access from aft to forward. I did not like having to go through the casino to access Ocean Plaza. No wrap around promenade. The only outdoor wake view seating was at the noisy Water works area and if you were in a wake view balcony cabin. However, the ship does fit a lot of everything in. Just needs better flow and ease of getting around.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Plenty of storage. A little tight, but clean and well organized. Full size shower instead of those small circular ones on RCI. The toilets could work a little better. Always had hot water. AC always worked. Tight little balcony.

Ship tip

Embarkation lunch at Ocean Plaza. And to help get around, from your cabin, go to the elevator that serves your destination; which is not necessarily the closest elevator.

Ports of call

Bimini, Bahamas

Very rustic. Not as touristy as Nassau. Not as manicured, but that is part of it’s rustic charm. Highly recommend shark snorkeling experience. After the snorkeling tour, we took a cab to “downtown.” Cab ride was $5 per person. Ate a superb lunch at Big John’s. Water view seating. Large portions, consider sharing. BRING PLENTY OF CASH! Credit cards not accepted. Took short walk to Radio Beach which is public. Take a left and go all the way down toward the trees for natural shade. There was a small coral reef right there to snorkel with plenty of fish. The water was crystal clear! We brought our own beach mat. There are chairs and umbrellas to rent and food and drinks nearby. Cab ride back to ship. Another $20 for the 4 of us. There are golf carts to rent for $60/day. Looking forward to going back one day.

Disembarkation

A bit disorganized. Due to the amount of people doing self-luggage checkout and supposed to be the 1st ones off, this delayed hearing/seeing on TV your group being called in a timely fashion. The line to board the busses back to the parking lot was very long. It was quicker to walk to your car which took about 15 minutes. If you don’t have mobility issues, take the walk instead of the bus or you will wait a long time.
