Review summary

We had a great time aboard the Carnival Sunrise. I’ll start with the lows. The stateroom we booked was an L-shaped balcony. It was quite comfortable, however, the stateroom only had 2 drawers and one of them had the hairdryer (less space). Because of the layout of the cabin, the shower was slightly smaller than in other cabins. Instead of a rectangle shape, the shower had a D-shape. Another low, was on the lido marketplace right next to the dessert buffet stand the floor vibrated even under calm seas. These are mostly annoyances, and in no way had an effect in our cruising experience. As for the highs, well, just about everything else. The service was stout, the restaurants (555 Steakhouse, Cucina del Capitano, and Bonsai Sushi) were exquisite. Totally worth the extra charge. The decor of the ship was surprisingly elegant, compared to the Sunshine’s (sister ship) more casual look. Cruise Director Erin was a surprise, we were expecting “The Flying Scotsman”, but he was on vacation, and she did not disappoint. The shows were great as well as the singers (one of the women singers had some trouble adjusting her volume to match the flow of the shows, but recovered whenever she had trouble). The Fun Squad were funny and engaging. Would definitely cruise on the Sunrise again.

Embarkation

We are ranked as Priority, we were allowed to embark before our check in time. The drawback was, we had to wait longer for our stateroom to be ready. Our check in was at 12:30pm - 1pm, staterooms are ready after 1:30pm. We were allowed to embark at 11:30am.

Food and Dining

First time we tried the 555 Steakhouse and Cucina del Capitano for dinner. The quality was superb. We also ate at Bonsai Sushi, Guy’s Burger Joint (breakfast and lunch), Blue Iguana Cantina, Lucky Bowl, Seafood Shack and Sea Day Brunch. Everything we tried was delicious. We didn’t try the Deli, nor the Java Cafe pastries.

Entertainment

We were hoping to see Cruise Director “The Flying Scotsman”, but he was on vacation. However, Cruise Director Erin was a surprise. She was funny, charismatic, and very nice to talked to. The Fun Squad was also very entertainment. The singers were also very talented, one of the singers sang lower than the rest, but her vocals were good.

From room service to the high end dinning, the service was excellent.

Ship Quality

Really loved the decor. Had an “upscale” look and feel. I’ve cruised on the Conquest and Sunshine Class ships before so I am familiar with the layout of their ships.

Cabin / Stateroom

Cabin 6432 is an L-Shaped cabin. Cabin was spacious and it has an extended balcony. It costs the same as a regular balcony stateroom. A couple of drawbacks, the shower was slightly smaller. Instead of a rectangle shape, the shower has D-shape. And for design purposes, the stateroom has fewer drawers than other staterooms.

Ports of call

Nassau, Bahamas

I like Nassau, but the haggle for taxis and purchase of “local products” is extremely annoying. If you also dislike this, STAY AWAY from the “Straw Market” close to the pier. Even if they see you from afar, they’ll try to seek your attention. We had guy selling bracelets that went across the street to sell us his merchandise and wouldn’t take no for an answer. A shame really, cause I like walking around in Nassau.
