Review summary

Great little vacation on a older ship. It was perfect for what we needed. we wanted to relax enjoy some shows enjoy the dinners and relax some more and we were able to do that. I also like that it being a older and smaller ship then the newer ships it didn't feel as crowded. Don't get me wrong the new ships are amazing but it was nice to not have to fight with 6000 other cruiser instead we just had to fight with about 3000 lol This ship will be amazing once it finishes with its refurbish.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Super easy!! They have the embarkation system down.. Walk in scan you boarding pass go thru security and your off to the ship took us only about 10 min from walking in till we were on the ship

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We loved having dinner in the main dining room! Our head waiter was Jose and his team Mandita and Elmer were so so nice. We did not try any specialty restaurants. The buffet was also good for breakfast and lunch. Definitely loved the Hamburger stand, the pizza pirate, and the deli for lunch options

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Being a older ship there is not tons to do. There is 3 pools and 5 hot tubs. The ship does have a slide but its a simple slide. They did have a basketball court, putt putt, a jogging track, ping pong tables, and a life size chest game.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We did not go to any of the stage shows but we did enjoy the comedy club. The comedians were funny. The host got repetitive after awhile her intro was the exact same every time. The fun squad was very energetic but had moments were it felt like we were just another week of cruisers. We were the first week of having the new cruise director. He was awesome as well but did feel like he was still figuring things out on the new ship being that it was his first week

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the staff are so willing to help you with anything that you need Our room steward was Herbert and he always said good morning, and Hi to us whenever he saw us. I was a little bummed that they went from cleaning your room in the morning and refreshing it up at night to only cleaning it once. I also learned I would rather have it cleaned at night while we are at dinner rather then late morning like we had it

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
It is a older ship and is need of some TLC luckily its going to be refurbished very soon, would love to go on it again after its re-done.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Its a interior stateroom, nothing special at all. but its serves its perpuse. A place to shower, and place to sleep, a place to get ready. Plenty of closet space. The A/C was not working the best I prefer the room to be colder. I would also suggest maybe not having so many things in the room like a chair and a table they just take up space.

Ship tip

Great ship to just have a layed back vacation. Great for people who just want to lay by the pool, go to the room and watch movies and take naps, go out at night to some shows and dinner. Great for a low key relaxing vacation.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

3 out of 5
we did not do anything in Long beach except get on and off the ship.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Stayed on the boat at this port did not want to fight the crowds to try to get a tender boat plus it was unbelievable hot and humid but the view from the ship of the rocks and arch was great

Mazatlan, Mexico

4 out of 5
This was a very pretty little place. Got off and went to a beach

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
Favorite port by far, just so beautiful. did a ATV tour thru the city and up into the mountains. The views were breathtaking, was so cool to actually see the culture while we drove thru the city and then being able to see the beauty thru the mountains.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We had a late flight out of LAX so we got the last debarkation number which was the best thing because by the time they called our number there was no lines or crowds of people trying to get off

Thank you for taking the time to share your 2019 review of the Carnival Splendor. I agree that smaller ships do offer a more intimate cruise experience. Glad you enjoyed your cruise.
