7 Night Mexican Riviera (Los Angeles Roundtrip) Sail Date: September 09, 2012 Ship: Carnival Splendor Cabin Type: Inside Traveled As: Family (older children) Reviewed: 5 years ago
I dont even know where to begin with this review. Checking in was very fast and easy but most everything after that was not. We boarded the ship at around 12:30pm and went up to the Lido Deck to eat at the buffet. We have been on at least 7 cruises and we had never seen such long lines at a buffet before. The buffet had at least 6 huge stations for lunch and it was so crowded and every day trying to eat breakfast and lunch took at least 45mins to get threw the line. When we received our bags one of them had a letter on top saying they thought they had seen something in the bag so they had gone threw it and didnt find anything. They had dumped all the cloths out and just threw them all back in. We had purchased a few shot glasses in mexico and on the last day of the cruise we walked into our room and found that there was a sock filled with glass sitting on the table and huge pieces of glass on the floor. Our room person had broken it and tried covering it up and didnt even say one word about it to us.

The food in the buffet never changed day to day. The dining room food was good on some nights then not on others.

On all the other cruises and cruise ships we had been on they had live music out of the lido deck threw out the day this ship had NONE. The only live music they had was a horrible singer that stood next to the casino on a little stage. Not sure where they hired her from but anyone would of sounded better. There was activities out on the Lido deck on our first day at sea but other then that there was hardly anything to do. I do have to say they showed movies on their big screen out on the lido deck at night and served popcorn and that was so cool.

The ship layout is the worst i have ever seen or been on. In order to get across one floor you would have to go up 2 floors and then walk all the way across then go back down. There was alot of deck space that would couldnt ever get to. In our second stateroom the bathroom had a horrible smell.(due to when it was broken down at sea for 2 days in 2010 the toilets over filled\, the smell was still in staterooms and bathrooms around the ship) Half the time you would use the restroom the toilets wouldnt flush in the staterooms and in the public ones around the ship. (where you couldnt find restrooms cause they didnt have very many out in public areas)

The state rooms were good size. But on our 3rd night of the cruise we were awaken by a loud pounding noise on our back wall of our stateroom we called the front desk and they tried telling us it was just the waves. We have been on plenty of cruises and know what the waves sound like and it wasnt waves. After arguing with the front desk for 3 hours and the noise kept getting louder and wouldnt stop at 3am they told us we can sleep in another room which was 3 rooms down from where we were. They told us the noise was a mechanical problem. They were in no hurry to figure out what it was. It continued threw the rest of the cruise so the last 2 nights they let us stay in the other room to sleep. DO NOT BOOK ROOM 1428.!!!
