7 Night Mexican Riviera (Los Angeles Roundtrip)
Sail Date: February 12, 2012
Ship: Carnival Splendor
Cabin Type: Balcony
Traveled As: Family (young children)
Reviewed: 5 years ago
the ship was fine, but had a GREAT staff. All the people were pretty nice. The Cruise Director was a little boring though. The 7 day trip was nice. A little too much pink and not enough views of the actual ocean from inside floors (blocked by inward facing couches)

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
food was okay - but our wait-staff was excellent. Dining times were as expected. ambience was kind of odd - the "pearls" look more like fried eggs. The tables were hard to get around - more rectangular tables than round (I prefer round)

Entertainment

1 out of 5
so so - the main show kind of stunk - the singers thought that starting out belting/screaming was what we wanted to hear - there was no where to go from there.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
the kids enjoyed Camp carnival and Club O2 - nothing special to note, but no complaints.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
we LOVED our room steward Jennifer (7th floor front of ship) Loved our head waiter Melvin. we made fb friends with both of them and plan to take them to lunch on one of their "breaks" when they're in Long Beach.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Nice ship, but not well planned for walking navigation. The only regular deck to walk from ship to stern is deck 5, but the dining is on 4/5, you have to take the stairs or the elevator to get to the dinner rather than just start on 3 (from the show room) and go to dinner (or vice versa) The adjoining rooms that have balconies pretty much don't have connectable balconies because the rooms are ON the bulkhead. The bulk head wall extends into the balcony area making it such that a balcony door can't be placed there (only a little 6 inch door to connect next to the railing)

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
room was fine, just like other ones. the balcony was kind of shallow. beds are comfortable.

Pros: the open front verandah/lookout on decks 6 & 7, our Steward and Head Waiter

Cons: hardly any places to sit against the window and look OUT - most areas of the ship have couches that block the window and face inward

Recommends Carnival Splendor? Yes!
