Carnival Sensation

5 Night Western Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip)

Sail date: February 24, 2020

Ship: Carnival Sensation

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 1 year ago

Review summary

We enjoy cruising and what it has to offer but will most likely use Royal Caribbean or Norwegian in the future. The ships and food seems to be higher quality than Carnival. Would not consider cruising on the Sensation again. Ship is too old and needs many upgrades.

Embarkation

no issues at all. We arrived at our selected time and breezed right through.

Food and Dining

The food was not very good. I would expect it to be better quality and more variety for the price you pay.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Maria Arzhelas at Guest Services was amazing. We had an issue of what sounded like a jack hammer below our room. Maria physically came to our stateroom to hear the noise. She attempted to determine the source and correct. After determining this was water being transferred between tanks and would continue throughout the cruise, she located an open room on another deck and assisted us in getting moved. I felt she went above and beyond trying to make this right. She was very friendly throughout the process. Nadia Charles was also involved with this issue and provided us a $150 credit. Lusca Kay D Sha and Suwedarma were excellent waiters. Both were outgoing and friendly and took time to call us by name, talk about their working for Carnival and the onboard experience. We enjoyed them so much the first meal, we requested their section for all of our meals during the cruise. They were just wonderful to us. Carnival is lucky to have these individuals working for them. They all portrayed a willingness to assist and serve throughout our cruise.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
This is an old ship and lacks a lot of the perks newer ships had. I was disappointed that the Serenity Deck was often very loud with people have their own set of speakers and having parties and no one from the Crew said anything to them about this. We like having an adults only deck with a pool and the older ships do not offer this.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The size and cleanliness of the cabin was fine. My only request would be to place hair dryers in each cabin. That was an added item and weight to luggage.

Ship tip

Don't expect a lot of flair since it's an older ship.

Ports of call

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
We have been to the Caymans before and love the island. We did not take an excursion because this island is very safe and we felt comfortable walking around Georgetown and taking cabs on our on.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

5 out of 5
We have visited before and knew what to expect. We are aware Jamaica is not safe for tourists outside of resorts and shore excursions. We went on the Bamboo Beach excursion and the bus was huge and very comfortable. Our guides were engaging and very helpful as well. This is not an island I would recommend getting off the beaten path on your own.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
I felt it was disorganized. Too many people trying to get off at the same time. Maybe have disembarkation times just like you do check in times.
